According to Tyler McVicker, a well-known journalist in the gaming community, Half-Life 3 is now "playable from start to finish" and will likely be announced by Valve this summer, with a release scheduled for winter.

During a recent Q&A livestream, McVicker said that development on Half-Life 3 is progressing positively, which could open the door for the game's announcement and release this year.
More evidence of Half-Life 3
Back in March of this year, Valve concept artist Evgeniy Evstratiy revealed on the CG Voices Podcast that he was in the Half-Life 3 development room. Around the same time, another leaker, Gabe Follower, said that Half-Life 3 would be “the end of Gordon’s adventure,” which could signal a less-than-dramatic end to one of gaming’s most popular franchises.
LoL and DOTA 2 conversion application
Additionally, internet leakers have discovered code references to HLX, believed to be the codename for Half-Life 3, in major updates for Deadlock and Dota 2. While these rumors are unconfirmed, they give hope to fans of the title.
McVicker also stressed that the HLX project will not be a VR game like Half-Life: Alyx and will not include features for terrain generation or roguelike mechanics (where players have full control over their actions on their turns). However, before fans get their hopes up, it's worth remembering that Half-Life 2 just celebrated its 20th anniversary and Valve has yet to make any official confirmation about a sequel.
