Creative in theme and style
In recent years, Hanoi has witnessed the strong rise of young writers and poets with independent thinking, producing genuinely creative works, and gradually forming new aesthetic trends, both in terms of themes and artistic styles.
In the field of poetry, names such as Nguyen Thi Thuy Hanh, Lu Mai, Nguyen Thi Kim Nhung, Ly Huu Luong, Du Nguyen, Nam Thi, Tran Thi Hang, Nguyen Vu Hiep, Ngo Gia Thien An, Vu Ngoc Dan Linh… have established themselves in the hearts of readers. Many of them are members of the Hanoi Writers Association or the Vietnam Writers Association , and are also actively involved in the Hanoi Young Writers Club – a group of young writers with potential and creative aspirations. Some authors have received awards from the Vietnam Writers Association and other specialized organizations. Works such as "Literature with Dark Scars" (Nguyen Thi Thuy Hanh), "Yao" (Ly Huu Luong), "Awakening with Imagination" (Nguyen Thi Kim Nhung), "Clouds in the Rabbit's Den" (Nguyen Vu Hiep)… are highly appreciated.
These works demonstrate the active development of the younger generation of poets in terms of form of expression, depth of thought, and courage in exploring challenging themes of contemporary life.
In the prose genre, familiar young writers like Duc Anh, Minh Trang, Cao Nguyet Nguyen, Hien Trang… are constantly exploring new creative directions. Hien Trang has novels like "The Bar Inside the Whale's Belly" and "If All I Had Were Words"; Cao Nguyet Nguyen with "The Little Devils of Thanh Cong Boarding House"… The generation of writers born after 1990, especially Gen Z (born between 1995 and 2012), are developing with diverse styles, such as writer Trieu Duong (born in 2001) with his collection of short stories "Nothing But Rain," which is quite edgy and sharp… After winning the Young Author Award of the Vietnam Writers Association with the novel "Double Life: Living Two Lives," writer Duc Anh (born in 1993) is experimenting with writing novels in English.
According to writer Nguyen Vinh Huynh, Chairman of the Hanoi Young Writers Club, young literature in the capital city is developing dynamically and independently, closely linked to modern life and deeply exploring individual sensibilities. Authors create new languages and forms, combining life with postmodern elements, creating a close and vibrant connection with readers. Many writers boldly explore new themes and engage with global literature.
Keeping pace with the times

In a context where information consumption is rapidly changing and readers' attention spans are increasingly limited, creating literary works that captivate readers is a challenge for authors. However, anyone who has attended poetry and literature readings at Cửa Ô Quán or literary forums at Trạm Đọc (Reading Station) will surely notice that young people today are not indifferent to literature. Book launches and discussions for young authors continue to attract large audiences. This is thanks to the quick and responsive movements of young authors in Hanoi.
Young writer Vu Ngoc Dan Linh argues that in today's era, readers access literature not only through printed books but also through phone screens and audio recordings of poetry readings. Listening directly at poetry and literature reading events, or even through videos with scrolling text and background music, has provided readers with many more choices. Literature is permeating new formats and spaces where emotions are conveyed not only through words but also through rhythm, imagery, and visual effects. This change is an adaptation to the times, and even a way to expand literature, connecting writers and readers.
Young writers in Hanoi during the new era have no longer confined themselves to the framework of printed poetry and prose, but have been liberating themselves in many directions such as poetry on Facebook and Instagram, storytelling literature through images and clips…
Sharing the same viewpoint, writer Nguyen Vinh Huynh added that young writers in Hanoi today are not standing outside the times but are actively expanding their reach, participating in international arenas, writing in foreign languages, organizing creative exchange events, and publishing books abroad… They are actively contributing to renewing contemporary literature, proving that they are not only technologically savvy but also possess creative ideals and a desire for integration.
Besides the efforts of young writers themselves, supporting and creating conditions for their long-term development needs to be prioritized by all levels of government, relevant agencies, and associations. Poet Nguyen Viet Chien, Head of the Young Writers' Committee (Hanoi Writers' Association), said that the Hanoi Writers' Association is implementing plans to support young authors. Expanding platforms such as thematic workshops, seminars, competitions, exchange programs, writing camps, and publishing new works will provide more energy and an environment for young people to assert themselves.
Continuing to create and innovate, young authors in Hanoi not only bring forth works rich in unique characteristics but also create a rich and diverse cultural environment. This opens up new perspectives, helping readers gain a deeper understanding of contemporary social and human issues, while contributing to the development of the capital's and the country's cultural industry.
