The 340km-long Ring Road 5 of the Capital Region will pass through 7 provinces and cities.

The Thang Long Project Management Board has just submitted the pre-feasibility study report for the investment project to build the Ring Road 5 in the Capital Region to the Ministry of Construction for appraisal. This is a nationally important project, under the authority of the National Assembly to decide on investment policies.

The route is approximately 340 km long, passing through Hanoi , Hai Phong, and the provinces of Phu Tho, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Thai Nguyen, and Ninh Binh. It starts in Yen Bai commune (Hanoi), connecting with Km367+100 of the Ho Chi Minh Highway; the end point completes the loop at the starting point, forming a complete ring road surrounding the capital region.

The Ring Road 5 is being developed as a complete 6-lane expressway, with local authorities planning parallel roads, green spaces, and sidewalks to ensure a minimum cross-sectional width of 120m, equivalent to 10 lanes.

Hanoi's three strategic ring road systems will be completed in the future.

This will be the outermost ring road in Hanoi's transportation plan. Currently, Ring Road 3 is operational, Ring Road 4 is under construction and is expected to be completed in 2027. Upon completion of Ring Road 5, Hanoi's three strategic ring roads will be fully completed.

The total investment for Ring Road 5 is estimated at VND 261,680 billion, of which construction and equipment costs account for approximately VND 145,280 billion; project management, consulting and other costs are approximately VND 10,170 billion; land clearance costs are approximately VND 70,130 billion, and the remainder is contingency costs.

According to the proposal, the project will be prepared during the 2026-2027 period; land clearance will begin in 2027 and be substantially completed by 2030. The expected funding sources include the central government budget, local government budgets, and non-budgetary mobilized capital, through public investment or public-private partnerships (PPP).
