On April 16th, speaking at the conference to launch the "Month of Action for Food Safety" and summarize food safety work, Mr. Hoang Quoc Cuong - Director of the Department of Health of Can Tho City - directed food safety management units to proactively and decisively plan for regular and unscheduled sampling by units responsible for food safety.
Mr. Cuong stated that the theme of the 2024 Food Safety Action Month is "Continuing to ensure food security and safety in the new situation" to effectively manage food safety and prevent large-scale food poisoning incidents.
It's not enough to just conduct inspections once or twice a year; regular monitoring is necessary at high-risk locations.
In a central district like Ninh Kieu, there may be many food processing businesses and street food vendors, but not many establishments are popular or attract large crowds.
Food safety officials need to focus on monitoring these locations, and management must utilize smart software instead of the current manual record-keeping and registration methods, Mr. Cuong stated.
At the conference, representatives from the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City also suggested that the city should allocate more funds for sampling and monitoring of agricultural, forestry, and aquatic food raw materials.
This funding is allocated to the district's economic or agricultural department to coordinate with the health sector in implementing Circular 17.
