Graceful, feminine

The exhibition "Little Stories" by four female artists, Thu Huong, Thuy Nga, Bich Nga, and Do Ha, held last year to celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20th, still leaves a deep impression on the city's art scene. The more than 50 works on display created a distinctly feminine atmosphere: young women with flowers, mothers and children, and seemingly simple moments of life expressed through subtle colors and emotionally rich painting.

This year, although no new exhibitions have opened yet, the female artists are already working on works for the end of the year. Besides familiar themes of love, family, and nature, they are also aiming to reflect more deeply on modern life and experiment with materials to create their own unique style.

Many beautiful songs have been written about the beauty of Hai Phong women.

The "Dreams" exhibition by a group of six artists from the former Hai Duong province, including Nguyen Tien Quan, Van Trong, Pham Dinh Tung, Nguyen Hung Cuong, Phung Van Tue, and Vu Van Long, held in Hanoi in 2019, caused a sensation in the art world. Nearly 50 works created in expressionist and abstract expressionist styles led viewers into a world of memories, myths, and dreams.

The image of women in these paintings appears diverse, sometimes appearing and disappearing like a distant memory, other times becoming symbols of beauty and inner emotion. Each artist has their own style, but they all share a common point: exploring the depth of psychology and emotion, offering a fresh, poetic perspective on women in contemporary painting.

On the musical map, the image of the woman of Hai Phong is also celebrated through many emotionally rich songs. The song "Hai Phong Girl," composed by musician Duc Hoai, often heard at major events in the port city, portrays the image of a graceful, dynamic, passionate, and confident woman – as a vibrant cultural "artifact," contributing to nurturing love for the city in the hearts of the public.

Abundant source of inspiration

The painting
The painting "Moon over the Sea" by artist Thu Huong is full of emotion about the happiness of a couple.

A readily apparent commonality is that in both fine art and music, Hai Phong artists do not view women merely as decorative figures or symbols. They delve into the psychology, social status, and transformations of the times: from the hardworking mother at home to the dynamic woman in modern society; from the gentle beauty of flowers to the confident image amidst urban life. Each work is a slice of life, contributing to a multi-layered picture of contemporary women.

Behind these feminine works of art lies the persistent effort of the female artists themselves. Despite busy work schedules and family responsibilities, they still find time to create, some painting late into the night, others working between shifts. They create not only with talent but also with perseverance, passion, and the support of family and colleagues. They are the ones who ignite inspiration, bringing the warmth of real life into their artworks.

Organizationally, the Hai Phong City Association of Literature and Arts has prioritized promoting creative works, publicizing works, and supporting its members, including many female authors, in participating in exhibitions, professional events, and community activities.

Meritorious Artist Le Hai, Chairman of the Hai Phong City Union of Literature and Arts Associations, emphasized the importance of encouraging creative works connected to life, strengthening connections between artists within and outside the locality so that works have the opportunity to reach a wider audience. This is not only a way to elevate the quality of works but also contributes to affirming the position of female artists in cultural life - where they are both creative subjects and storytellers for the community.

The painting
The painting "Land of Love" by young female artist Do Ha is full of feminine charm.

On the journey to honor women on October 20th, the paintings, songs, and artistic activities of Hai Phong not only beautify the cultural space but also contribute to enriching social awareness about the role, beauty, and value of women. Art here is a mirror reflecting, supporting, and giving voice to small but significant lives – "small stories" that come together to form a larger, very real and very human picture.
