According to documents available so far, the easternmost point of mainland Vietnam is located at Mui Doi (109°27'55'' East longitude) in Van Thanh commune, Van Ninh district, Khanh Hoa province.

However, in Phu Yen , next to the Mui Dien lighthouse, there is a granite marker clearly stating: "Mui Dien (Mui Dai Lan), the easternmost point, where the first sunrise of mainland Vietnam is received, 109°27'06'' East longitude, altitude 83.5 m; located in Hoa Tam commune, Dong Hoa town, Phu Yen province."

According to the Phu Yen Museum, Mui Dien (formerly known as Ke Ga Cape or Dai Lan Cape) was discovered by the French General Varella, who identified its strategic importance on the sea route in the late 19th century. In 1890, the French built a lighthouse there, and it was subsequently given the new name Mui Dien (Electric Cape). This is explained by the fact that fishermen fishing offshore at night saw the continuous flashing of the lighthouse's electric lights.

By 1945, the lighthouse temporarily ceased operation due to the fierce fighting of World War II across all continents. In 1961, the Saigon government restored the lighthouse, but its operation also temporarily ceased in 1965, as American planes bombed and destroyed almost the entire area of Vung Ro, a location used by unmarked ships transporting weapons, ammunition, and medicine from the North to support the battlefield in the South via the Ho Chi Minh Trail at sea. Construction of the Mui Dien lighthouse resumed in 1995 and was completed on July 3, 1997, becoming one of the most famous lighthouses in the South China Sea.

This lighthouse has a 3-flashing light with a 15-second cycle at the highest point of Hon Ba Island, 586 meters high. The lighthouse's light has a range of 27 nautical miles (approximately 40 km), serving to easily guide domestic and foreign ships navigating international waters at night. From the base of the tower to the top of the lighthouse, which is 26 meters high, is connected by a spiral staircase of 107 wooden steps. The height from sea level to the top of the lighthouse is 110 meters. Mui Dien is one of eight lighthouses in Vietnam that are over 100 years old.

Tourists take souvenir photos next to the Mui Dien landmark.

From Tuy Hoa City, visitors can follow the coastal road for over 30 km to reach the attractive destination of Bai Mon - Mui Dien. Alternatively, visitors can choose to travel by boat from Vung Ro port. The road to Mui Dien has been meticulously constructed with stone steps. Many rare and exotic flowers and plants thrive year-round around the mountain where the Mui Dien lighthouse is located. This destination always offers many charming and peaceful accommodations at an altitude of 560 meters amidst the crashing waves of the sea.

During the day, visitors can enjoy the clear blue waters and smooth sandy shores of Bai Mon Bay, located at the foot of Mui Dien Cape. At night, from the lighthouse, visitors can admire the lights of thousands of fishing boats bobbing in the distance. Then, they can wake up early to joyfully welcome the first rays of sunlight rising from the East Sea onto the Vietnamese mainland.

In 2008, Bai Mon - Mui Dien was recognized as a National Scenic Monument.
