In the work "Journey to the West", Bodhidharma was the first teacher of Sun Wukong . Bodhidharma was one of the great immortals with profound magic and virtue. His identity was also quite mysterious. |

Monkey King was born from a rock at Flower Fruit Mountain. After witnessing the death of an old monkey, Sun Wukong decided to seek out a god to learn from him and discover the law of immortality. |

By coincidence, the Great Sage Equaling Heaven came to Linh Dai Phuong Thon mountain - where Bodhi Patriarch practiced. After meeting this stone monkey, Bodhi Patriarch named him Ton Ngo Khong. |

During the 7 years at Linh Dai Phuong Thon mountain, Ton Ngo Khong, like many other disciples, only did odd jobs such as carrying water, cleaning the house... and practicing Taoism. |

Later, Bodhidharma realized that this stone monkey had a talent for learning magic, so he taught it 72 magical transformations (Seventy-two Mysterious Techniques - Dia Sat). |

After Sun Wukong mastered the 72 transformations, Bodhidharma chased Sun Wukong down the mountain and forbade him from telling anyone that he was his disciple. Bodhidharma did this for a profound reason. |

First, Bodhidharma was a great immortal with great magical powers, so he could "see through" the future. Knowing that Sun Wukong would later assist Tang Sanzang in his quest for Buddhist scriptures, Bodhidharma predicted that this disciple would encounter many difficulties and hardships. |

Furthermore, Bodhidharma also knew early on that Sun Wukong liked to show off and rely on his own talents, which could lead to disaster. |

After those failures, Wukong will mature and gradually practice to attain enlightenment. These things are in the destiny of the Monkey King. |

No matter how great his supernatural powers were, Bodhidharma could not change Sun Wukong's fate. Therefore, he chased Monkey King down the mountain after he learned 72 magical transformations because he wanted his disciple to quickly embark on the journey of learning the Way, attaining enlightenment, and becoming a Buddha.
