Why did the Quy Nhon University Fanpage send an apology letter?

On June 9th, speaking to the press, Mr. Do Ngoc My, Rector of Quy Nhon University (Binh Dinh province), confirmed that the university had just posted an apology letter on the Quy Nhon University Admissions Fanpage.

The apology letter addressed the errors and lack of professionalism in the responses to admissions messages from Quy Nhon University's admissions staff when students messaged them to inquire about admissions.

"Considering that the actions of the school staff in this case were wrong and went beyond the scope of a specialized counseling department, Quy Nhon University would like to extend its most sincere and deepest apologies to all readers, students, and pupils... for being affected by the negative information circulating on social media," excerpt from the apology letter.

On the evening of June 8th and the morning of June 9th, numerous posts and images related to a conversation between a student and staff member of the Quy Nhon University Admissions Fanpage (belonging to Quy Nhon University) were shared on Facebook.

Information shared about a student's dissatisfaction after messaging to inquire about admission information at Quy Nhon University. Specifically, at 12:52 PM, the student messaged: " Does your university offer direct admission with an IELTS score of 6.5 for students from non-specialized schools? " However, the response received from the admissions staff surprised the student: "Don't you think the teachers need to rest at this time?"

Nevertheless, the student still messaged back to apologize, but then received another message from the Quy Nhon University Admissions Fanpage: "You're a student from a specialized high school, and you don't know how to think of others?"

At this point, the student responded by saying they only wanted to inquire about admissions information and that if the staff member was busy, they could reply later as it was just a message. However, the school staff member continued to argue and claimed that the student had "hurt" the feelings of the school's teachers...

After reading the information and conversations, the online community and students in Binh Dinh were extremely outraged by the attitude and responses from the admissions staff of Quy Nhon University. The posted information spread widely, attracting tens of thousands of views, comments, and expressions of support...

The images and information were widely shared on social media.

Explaining the incident, Mr. Do Ngoc My stated that the admissions staff's response was tactless and inconsistent with the school's code of conduct. Regarding the student's counter-argument, Mr. My considered it appropriate.

"We have identified the staff member who responded to the message and are verifying their identity to determine appropriate action depending on the severity... Also, because the students sent the message at the exact time this admissions counselor was having lunch, some of the comments were tactless," said Mr. Do Ngoc My.
