RT reported that on August 1, speaking to reporters at the White House, President Trump explained the order to deploy two nuclear submarines near Russian waters, saying that this move was necessary to ensure national security.
"Yes, we had to do it. A threat was made, and we didn't think it was appropriate. So I did it on the basis of the safety of our people," Trump said, responding to Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev's statement on July 31 that Russia still possessed the Perimeter nuclear deterrent system inherited from the Soviet Union.

Although Russia has never officially confirmed the existence of the system, Western analysts believe it serves as a last-ditch deterrent in the event of a preemptive strike against the Russian leadership.
The White House and the Pentagon have not commented further, and President Trump's claim about the submarine redeployment remains unverified, as the exact locations and patrol areas of US nuclear submarines are among the most closely guarded secrets in the military.
Earlier on August 1, President Trump announced in a post on Truth Social that he had ordered the deployment of two US nuclear submarines to what he called "appropriate areas" in response to Mr. Medvedev's "provocative" statements on social media.
"Words matter and can often lead to unintended consequences," the White House chief stressed.
