On the occasion of the 85th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam National United Front (November 18, 1930 – November 18, 2015), on the afternoon of November 15, 2015, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong attended the National Unity Day celebration with the people of Thap Thuong village, Song Phuong commune, Dan Phuong district, Hanoi .
Here, engaging in friendly conversation with the villagers of Thap Thuong hamlet, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong expressed his joy and excitement at the development and multifaceted changes in his hometown of Dan Phuong, Hanoi in general, and Thap Thuong hamlet, Song Phuong commune in particular.
During the conversation, General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong also shared his memories from the 1970s, when he was a journalist and went to Dan Phuong to write articles. At that time, Dan Phuong district did not yet have a district headquarters, and the people had little rice and a lot of cassava. But after attending the National Unity Day celebration in Dan Phuong this time, the General Secretary observed that Dan Phuong has changed every day. The district headquarters is spacious and modern, and the villages are increasingly developing, becoming more prosperous, green, clean, and civilized. The material and spiritual lives of the people are constantly improving. General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong believes that these results are due to the people's spirit of unity and consensus under the leadership of the Party Committee and the government.
Recalling President Ho Chi Minh 's words, "Unity, unity, great unity. Success, success, great success," General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong affirmed that the Vietnam Fatherland Front plays a crucial role in building national unity. Over the past period, the Vietnam Fatherland Front has launched many patriotic emulation movements and campaigns such as "All people unite to build a cultured life in residential areas," "Day for the poor," and the movement "All people unite to build new rural areas and civilized urban areas." This is a new campaign, a central force creating attraction to unite people across the country.
The General Secretary expressed his hope that, based on the deep foundation of the people's trust in the Party and the regime, with the correct direction set by the Central Committee, the City, and Dan Phuong district, and with determination and the spirit of national unity, the Party Committee, government, and people of Song Phuong commune will continue to uphold their traditions and experiences, strive to successfully achieve the set goals and tasks, and build their homeland into an increasingly prosperous, beautiful, and civilized place.
Nine years have passed, but the impressions of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong among the officials and people of Dan Phuong remain profound. Upon hearing the news of the General Secretary's passing, the officials and people of Song Phuong commune were deeply saddened and grieved, as if they had lost a close relative.
Speaking with Kinh tế & Đô thị (Economy & Urban Affairs), Ms. Bui Thi Thuy, a teacher at Song Phuong Commune Kindergarten, said she felt very fortunate to have met General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he attended the National Unity Day celebration in Thap Thuong village on November 15, 2015. Even more special, her eldest son, Dong Hai Long, who was only 7 months old at the time, had the honor of being held in General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's arms, who affectionately talked to him and comforted him.
“Later, when my child grew up a little, wherever she went, she proudly told her friends and everyone around her that she had been held by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong. Her grandparents in the countryside did the same, telling everyone they met. The whole family felt lucky and proud that our child had the opportunity to have close contact with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong,” shared Ms. Bui Thi Thuy.
Ms. Thuy added that although their time together was limited, she was deeply impressed by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's kindness and closeness to the people, befitting the highest leader of the Party. "Hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, I felt very sad, as if a close relative had been lost," Ms. Thuy said, her voice choked with emotion.
The Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Phuong commune, Bui Anh Tung, also had a very deep impression of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong when he attended the National Unity Day on November 15, 2015. At that time, Bui Anh Tung was the Standing Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Song Phuong commune, directly supervising the organization of the National Unity Day in Thap Thuong village and also introducing delegates from the Central Government, the City, and Dan Phuong district to attend.
Speaking to Kinh tế & Đô thị (Economy & Urban Affairs), Bui Anh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Phuong commune, said that being praised by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong for his confident leadership of the program made him feel very happy and relieved a lot of pressure.
“General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was very approachable. He visited, shook hands with elderly people, and had kind conversations with officials and people in the commune. Therefore, everyone was delighted and impressed by the General Secretary. Upon hearing the news of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong's passing, the officials and people of Song Phuong commune were very saddened and mourned the loss of an outstanding, exemplary, approachable, and highly trusted Party leader,” said Bui Anh Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Song Phuong commune.
Following the directives of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, the officials and people of Song Phuong commune have continuously united and strived to build their homeland into an increasingly developed, prosperous, and civilized place. In 2018, the commune was recognized as achieving advanced new rural standards. This provides a favorable foundation for Song Phuong commune to continue striving to build a model new rural area.
And just three years later, in 2021, Song Phuong commune successfully completed and was recognized by the Hanoi People's Committee as a model new rural commune. Notably, Song Phuong was one of the first five communes in Dan Phuong district, as well as in the entire city of Hanoi, to achieve the status of a model new rural commune.
Currently, the commune is continuing to maintain and improve the quality of criteria for a model new rural commune, synchronizing infrastructure, urban development, and environmental protection. At the same time, the commune will also implement solutions to achieve indicators for urban infrastructure development to fully meet the standards for becoming a ward before 2025.
