Work well because of… habit
After the rehearsal of the parade to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day, the image of two students quietly picking up pieces of trash on the bustling Le Loi Street (District 1, Ho Chi Minh City) full of people and vehicles awakened the sense of responsibility of the community. The two students are Vo Thuy Du and Le Duc Tri, two friends in class 9A3 at Van Don Secondary School, District 4.
From surprise and curiosity, the adults standing around the two children quickly realized what needed to be done. They bent down to pick up the trash at their feet. A messy street after many hours of crowded gatherings became clean just from the innocent actions of two children.
Sharing the reason for picking up trash, Thuy Du honestly expressed: "I saw a lot of trash on the street, including small flags left behind. I felt sorry when I saw it, so I asked Tri to help clean up together."
Thuy Du and Duc Tri were both surprised when their work was noticed and spread on social networks. Because as Duc Tri said, it seemed to be a habit, because at school and at home, they always actively participated in environmental protection activities organized by the Youth Union and the Young Pioneers.

Images of Vo Thuy Du and Le Duc Tri picking up trash are being posted on many social networking sites with countless compliments (Photo archive).
The story of two ninth graders picking up trash during the parade rehearsal is one of countless good deeds of students. Throughout the S-shaped strip of land, the "seeds of responsibility" continue to sprout.
Following that action, throughout the S-shaped strip of land, the beautiful actions of school children continued to spread. In Hai Khe ( Quang Tri ), last March, two students Le Thanh Tinh and Tran Thi Linh Dan, grade 4 students of Hai Khe Primary and Secondary School, did not hesitate to return a gold bar they found.
Rewarding the two students, Deputy Secretary of Hai Lang District Youth Union Le Quy Tri highly appreciated their actions, saying that this was not only a manifestation of honesty but also a shining example, contributingto educating the younger generation about ethics and social responsibility.

At the same time, in Thanh Hoa , four students of class 7D at Tran Phu Secondary School, Hoang Hai Long, Bui Anh Thang, Tran Tuan Hung and Le Thi Ngoc Han, together brought more than 40 million VND to the authorities.
Previously, in 2024, in Dak Nong, 6th grade boy Nguyen Ngoc Vu also carefully kept and reported to the police the 20 million VND he found.
At higher levels of education, high school and university students still maintain a strong and pure spirit. Like Nguyen Ba Bien, class 12A7, Nguyen Trai High School, Bac Ninh, looking for the owner of a fabric bag containing 635 million VND in cash and some personal documents.
Or Phan Vo Thanh Phat, a first-year student at Ho Chi Minh City Vocational College, brought to the police a document bag containing 400 million VND in cash and asked them to find the person who dropped it in Tien Giang.
Not only showing responsibility and honesty, many students also showed admirable bravery. One such student was Huynh Trieu Dien (12 years old), from Long Bien, Hanoi, who, on a trip back to his hometown in Quang Nam, jumped into the sea to save people.
When he saved his friend, Dien was only 11 years old and had not learned to swim for long, but he bravely saved a friend who was taller than him from drowning in the sea. The brave and quick-witted action of the 5th grade boy made adults admire him. However, when many people asked about his good deed, Dien humbly said: "I think what I did was normal. I am very happy that I saved my friend."

At that time, I didn't think about anything else, just how I could save him. I felt that what I did was normal. I was very happy that I saved my friend.
When he was awarded, knowing that his friend's family had just been saved from hardship, Dien expressed his desire to share the award so that his friend could buy school supplies for the new school year.
These beautiful actions, whether big or small, show the cultivation of love in each family and the hard work of moral education and civic education in each school, where the Youth Union and Young Pioneers play an important role.
Ms. Le Thi Thuy, Principal of Van Don Secondary School (District 4, Ho Chi Minh City), proudly shared about the environmental protection activities implemented by the school, in which the Youth Union and Young Pioneers are the core forces, helping students form a sense of responsibility towards the community.
Through practical activities such as participating in labor, cleaning in the classroom, on campus, sorting garbage, disposing of garbage in the right place, limiting the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic items, maintaining hygiene at all times, everywhere... help train students' bravery.
"Good leaves" protect love
In 2024, super typhoon Yagi caused a lot of damage to the northern mountainous region. Amid the difficulties, the image of the "good leaves" - the students - contributed to spreading the spirit of mutual love.
Trinh Hong Vinh, a fourth grader in Binh Dinh, used all of the 1.7 million VND he had saved for four years in his piggy bank to send to people in the North who suffered damage from storms and floods.
The simple and sincere letter she sent along with the money touched the hearts of many people: "I have some spare change that my aunt Hai and my parents gave me. I saved it since first grade to buy a transformer superhero. Now I'm asking my dad to send it to my friends who are affected by the flood. I'll save the money to buy a superhero later."

Dao Minh Duc, a fourth grader in Hanoi, also folded an envelope and wrote a letter to the people in the flood-hit areas, along with all the savings from his scholarships and awards. His neat handwriting moved many people.
On social networks, many people shared images of very small amounts of money to support the flood, only a few tens of thousands of dong, or even a few thousand, along with honest transfer content: "I'm a student and don't have much", "This is my heart, I hope everyone can overcome...".
The few thousand dollars in the transferred account and the piggy banks raised with scholarship money, lucky money, and housework money contain the pure and great feelings of the students.

The children's sincere kindness, without any calculation or self-interest, is like a healthy leaf, arousing and spreading a strong spirit of mutual love and support in the community.
Or the story of female student Tran Bang Nhi, class 7A, Phan Dinh Phung Secondary School, Ha Tinh, who wrote a handwritten letter asking for a scholarship for a friend in difficult circumstances, touching many hearts.
It can be said that more and more bright examples of honesty, responsibility, sharing and courage are blooming, especially when they are still students, team members, teenagers and children, creating deep impressions in the community.
These actions not only beautify the image of the young generation of Vietnam but also affirm the important role of family, school and especially the Youth Union and Pioneer organizations in educating children in ethics and lifestyle.
Youth Union and Young Pioneers - A place to nurture "good leaves"
Ms. Nguyen Thi Hen, former literature teacher at Xuan Son Secondary School, Quang Ninh, expressed: "On social networks, I often come across lines of poetry by poet Nguyen Si Dai: "Some mend the sky and fill the sea. Others build ramparts and walls. I am just a leaf. My job is to stay green."
But she doesn't want her students to have that mindset: "We were born during war, the country doesn't allow people to live only for themselves. Today, the country is peaceful, independent, the economy is developing, the young generation can't live only for themselves either."
Children must be taught about the spirit of a strong nation, must strive to study and practice to develop themselves and contribute to the country, so that the country can stand shoulder to shoulder with the world powers, ensuring a long-lasting, sustainable peace.
To achieve that, Ms. Hen emphasized the key role of the Youth Union and Young Pioneers in educating ethics and cultural lifestyles for young people. She realized that the Youth Union and Young Pioneers movement has more and more creative, practical and effective forms of activities, such as mock trials, charity fairs, "Small Plan" and "Piggy Bank" movements, etc.

The Youth Union is truly a place where the strength of pure hearts gather, where children learn from each other, encourage each other to do good deeds every day and spread that to the community.
Ms. Hen noted the need for effective Youth Union work to help students have a healthy and useful living environment, away from temptations on the internet.
"If you are a leaf, live like a healthy leaf to be ready to protect and support those around you, the community around you and more broadly the country. As Uncle Ho taught: Young people do small things, depending on their strength," said teacher Hen.
General Secretary To Lam has repeatedly emphasized the role of the young generation in building a united and loving society. The small acts of kindness of students across the country - living proof of a young generation full of compassion, honesty, courage and a high sense of responsibility - are the first bricks on that journey of building.
