On March 18th, the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang announced the results of testing food samples involved in the aforementioned food poisoning incident.
Through testing food samples, hand samples, water samples, and patient samples, the institute determined that: fried onions tested positive for Salmonella spp; vegetables (pickled cucumbers) tested positive for Bacillus cereus; and the hand sample of patient Le Thi Bich Lan (36 years old) tested positive for Staphylococcus aureus.
Samples of chicken rice (rice with egg sauce and shredded chicken rice) remaining at a patient's household, purchased at 5 PM on March 12th, tested positive for Salmonella spp., Bacillus cereus bacteria producing NHE (Non-haemolytic entertoxin) and HBL (Hemolysin BL, a hemolysin toxin).
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Health , said that the results from the Pasteur Institute in Nha Trang clearly identifying the types of bacteria will facilitate treatment. After clearly identifying the cause of the poisoning, the department will coordinate with the city police and the city's People's Committee to carry out the next steps, including handling and imposing penalties.

Hundreds of patients involved in the food poisoning incident have been discharged from the hospital.
Mr. Trinh Ngoc Hiep, deputy director of the Khanh Hoa Department of Health, also said that at this time, all patients under treatment are recovering well. After 1-3 days, all remaining patients will be discharged from the hospital.
In the case of a pregnant woman at 18 weeks of gestation being treated at Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital, her condition has improved significantly, and the diarrhea has stopped. The patient has been transferred from the intensive care and toxicology unit to the general internal medicine and neurology department for continued treatment.
According to a report from the Khanh Hoa Department of Health, as of 3 PM on March 18th, the number of active cases under treatment was 75, the number of discharged patients was 177, and the number of patients prescribed for outpatient monitoring was 117.
