To implement the project "Reduced Emission Production in the Crop Production Sector giai đoạn 2025-2035, with a vision to 2050", the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province issued document No. 2040 assigning the Department of Agriculture and Environment to take the lead and coordinate with relevant agencies, units, and localities to urgently review, research, and advise the Provincial People's Committee on the implementation of this project.
Previously, Khanh Hoa province implemented the Integrated Crop Health Management (IPHM) program, aiming to apply it to over 80% of rice, vegetable, and fruit crops by 2030. The program helps reduce pesticide use by approximately 30% and chemical fertilizer use by 30%, thereby reducing soil and water pollution, greenhouse gas emissions, and production costs.

The "Emission Reduction in Crop Production" project has been approved by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to promote sustainable agricultural development, adapt to climate change, and realize commitments on net emissions.
According to the overall target, by 2035, the crop production sector will contribute to reducing at least 15% of total greenhouse gas emissions compared to the base year of 2020. The vision for 2050 is for 100% of the area of key crops to apply sustainable farming practices, while also popularizing the "low-emission" label across agricultural products. To achieve this goal, the project focuses on transforming the crop structure to suit the ecological zones and applying a comprehensive set of low-emission technical packages. Technical solutions include rational irrigation water management, increased use of organic and bio-fertilizers, farming practices that protect soil resources, application of digital technology, and reduction of greenhouse gas emissions.
Notably, the project also focuses on building value chain production models and piloting farming models capable of generating carbon credits to create additional economic value for farmers and enhance the competitiveness of Vietnamese agricultural products in the international market.
This is an important foundation for Khanh Hoa province in particular, and the whole country in general, to move towards an ecological, modern, and environmentally responsible agricultural system.
