On the evening of June 6 in Hanoi , Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guide, announced the first Michelin-starred restaurants in Vietnam. For the first time, 4 Vietnamese restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City were selected and awarded stars by Michelin.
“We are very proud to have completed the first list of Michelin Guide restaurants in Vietnam, including 103 restaurants, including 4 restaurants with one Michelin star. This list clearly reflects the differences and richness of cuisine between the two cities, Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City,” said Mr. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of Michelin Guide.

This is the first time that restaurants in Vietnam have been awarded Michelin stars or featured in the guide. From December 1, 2022, the judges came to Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to find the best restaurants. They are experienced people in the field of cuisine, restaurant services, hotels, highly skilled chefs, coming from 15 countries.
Michelin-starred restaurants are independently evaluated by anonymous judges, according to worldwide standards, based on five criteria: food quality, culinary talent, flavor harmony, the chef's personality expressed through the food, and the consistency of the food over time and across the entire menu.

Speaking at the launch ceremony of Michelin Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, Ms. Nguyen Vu Quynh Anh - General Director of Sun Hospitality Group (a resort tourism brand of Sun Group) shared: “From the list announced by Michelin today, the world's new culinary destination named Vietnam will be spread to global tourists. The foundation for the new development of not only the culinary industry, but also the Vietnamese tourism industry in general, will also be built from today. This historical milestone has just been established and the next journey, for Vietnam to have more Michelin awards in the future, will require a lot of effort. But with the presence of Michelin Guide, the efforts of chefs and those working in the culinary industry throughout Vietnam, we believe that very soon, Vietnam will be a classy culinary destination that every international tourist needs to visit once in their life".
Mr. Nguyen Trung Khanh - General Director of Vietnam National Administration of Tourism emphasized: "With the recognition of Michelin coming to Vietnam, there is a very strict assessment process. The announcement of restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City today being associated with the Michelin brand will be a huge turning point for all Vietnamese restaurants, creating a brand to welcome tourists, especially international visitors."

According to the leader of the General Department of Tourism, the announcement of Vietnamese restaurants with Michelin stars will be a big and important step in approaching the world's quality of service. Therefore, with the Michelin brand creating a trend, when Michelin comes to Vietnam, it will create a new trend for tourists coming to Vietnam.
