According to the Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore, in the first 6 months of 2025, Singapore's total rice import value reached about 248.9 million SGD, an increase of 10.8% over the same period in 2024.
Of which, white rice has an import value of 130 million SGD (up 83.7% over the same period in 2024), accounting for nearly 52.4% of Singapore's total rice imports.
India is the largest rice supplier to the Singapore market with current import value reaching 87.8 million SGD, accounting for 35.3% of the total imported rice market share.
Thailand is the second largest rice supplier in the Singapore market with an import value of SGD 76.2 million, accounting for 30.6% of the market share.
Vietnam is the third largest rice supplier in the Singapore market, capturing a high market share in the white rice and milled/hulled fragrant rice groups.
In the first half of 2025, Vietnam's rice exports to Singapore reached 60.9 million SGD, down 17.1% over the same period in 2024, accounting for 24.5% of the total rice import market share in this market.
Vietnam's rice import value to this country decreased by 17.1% over the same period, possibly due to lower rice export prices compared to 2024.
According to a report by the Vietnamese Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , the average export price of Vietnamese rice in the first half of 2025 is estimated at 517.5 USD/ton, down 18.4% over the same period in 2024.
According to statistics from the Singapore Corporate Governance Authority, white rice is a group in which Singapore has a high level of diversity in foreign supply sources (over 20 partner countries). However, Vietnam's market share in this group is currently second only to India (60.9 million SGD, accounting for 46.7%).
In addition to white rice, Vietnam has two other groups with high import value to the Singapore market: fragrant milled/hulled rice and glutinous rice, with import value in the first 6 months reaching 15.5 million USD and 4.7 million USD, respectively, accounting for 57% and 61% of the import market share in Singapore.
The Vietnam Trade Office in Singapore also stated that in the coming time, the scale of the imported rice market in Singapore will remain stable, so Vietnamese rice will continue to face great competition from similar products from India, Thailand and Japan.
