According to the VNA special correspondent, on September 22, General Secretary and President To Lam attended and delivered an important speech at the opening session of the Future Summit within the framework of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly's High-Level Week.

Mr. Secretary-General of the United Nations ,
Ladies and gentlemen,

The history of human development has witnessed tremendous progress. Human intelligence has helped change the world, making human life better, more developed, and more complete in every aspect. However, humans themselves are also the agents that create the difficulties and challenges that humanity is currently facing.

Specifically, it is the cause of climate change, epidemics, resource depletion, or the creation of weapons of mass destruction... Right now, the choices we make will shape our future.

In the face of the rapid development of science and technology, the goal of sustainable development for the world and the benefit of humanity must be placed at the center, as our highest objective.

Scientific and technological achievements must serve social progress, be oriented towards humanity, liberate humanity, promote holistic human development, continuously improve living standards, and ensure the interests and happiness of humankind and future generations.

Scientific and technological achievements should promote cooperation, not become tools used against other nations, or go against the aspirations of peoples for peace, development, equality, and justice.

The achievements of human intellect must focus on economic development, building a just and civilized society, improving the quality of life for the people, and eradicating poverty. Accordingly, we propose strengthening investment in medical research, education and training, digital transformation, green transformation, and solutions to serve the broad masses of the people, while minimizing investment in the research and development of weapons of mass destruction, with the goal of peace, stability, sustainable development, and equality among nations and peoples worldwide.

During this pivotal period, we need to strengthen solidarity, cooperation, and mutual respect, uphold international law and the United Nations Charter, and resolve disagreements and disputes peacefully.

Major countries need to act responsibly and share common achievements in scientific and technological research for mutual development.

The United Nations and regional organizations, including ASEAN, need to take the lead in promoting cooperation and coordinated action in responding to global challenges and leveraging the opportunities arising from scientific and technological advancements.

We are facing a historic opportunity to usher the world into a new era, a better age of development, for progressive progress, social justice, and a prosperous, free, and happy life for our people, when we unite in understanding, action, effort, and close, effective cooperation.

Vietnam welcomes the documents adopted at the Conference and hopes that their contents will be implemented decisively and effectively. We hope that the United Nations, in its central coordinating role, and international organizations will continue to make more practical, effective, and stronger contributions to the goal of preventing threats to the world's rapid and sustainable development, starting today.

Vietnam is committed to making active and effective contributions to the common efforts to build a peaceful world, with equitable development for the well-being and happiness of all humanity.
