Vietjet announces a direct flight route between Ho Chi Minh City and Cebu (Philippines), further expanding its international flight network and strengthening exchanges within ASEAN.

The announcement ceremony took place at the Vietnam-Philippines Business Forum, in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister Phan Van Giang and high-ranking leaders of both countries, during the state visit of General Secretary and President To Lam to the Philippines.

The new route is expected to commence operations on December 11, 2026, with a frequency of 5 round-trip flights per week, thereby doubling Vietjet's capacity on the Vietnam-Philippines network. Following the success of the Ho Chi Minh City-Manila route, which launched at the end of 2025, the Ho Chi Minh City-Cebu route will provide another convenient travel option between the two countries, promoting economic development in Southeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region.

As the oldest city and the first capital of the Philippines, Cebu is now one of the largest economic centers in the island nation. The city is known for its rich historical and cultural heritage, world-class beach resorts, and as a gateway to many popular tourist islands such as Bohol, Boracay, and Palawan.

Meanwhile, Ho Chi Minh City is the economic powerhouse, the gateway to exploring Vietnam, and an international transit hub. From here, passengers can conveniently connect to many destinations in Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, India, Sri Lanka, Kazakhstan, or the Czech Republic, through Vietjet's extensive flight network.

The strong development of air connectivity is contributing to boosting economic flows between Vietnam and the Philippines. According to official Vietnamese statistics, bilateral trade with the Philippines is projected to reach US$7.8 billion in 2025, and the two countries are aiming for US$10 billion in the near future.

In the first four months of 2026, Vietnam welcomed 236,000 visitors from the Philippines, a 73.4% increase compared to the same period last year, placing the island nation in Vietnam's top 10 largest international tourist markets for the first time.

Since 2019, Vietjet has operated five routes between the two countries, connecting Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, and Da Nang with top Philippine destinations such as Manila, Davao, and Cebu. These routes contribute to the development of tourism, trade, investment, logistics, and people-to-people exchanges between two of Southeast Asia's most vibrant economies.

Vietjet's Ho Chi Minh City-Cebu route will not only be a new transportation link between the two cities but also a strategic bridge connecting two dynamic business communities, two markets with great potential, and two cultures rich in identity.

With a team of over 100 Filipino personnel – from pilots, engineers, flight attendants to management staff – working alongside Vietjet in the market, the airline will continue to pursue plans to expand its flight network, add other attractive destinations in the Philippines in the near future, and strengthen strategic connections between Vietnam and the Philippines as well as within ASEAN.
