According to the General Statistics Office of the Ministry of Finance , in May, the number of international visitors to Vietnam was estimated at 1.78 million, an increase of 16.5% compared to the same period last year.
Overall, in the first five months of 2026, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached 10.6 million, an increase of 14.9% compared to the same period last year and the highest figure for the first five months of any year to date.

Earlier in April, the tourism industry also welcomed 2.03 million international visitors, an increase of 22.8% compared to the same period last year. In the first four months of the year, the number of international visitors to Vietnam reached 8.8 million, an increase of 14.6%.
This figure marks the first time in four consecutive months that Vietnam's tourism industry has welcomed over 2 million international visitors per month, and also the first time the number of international visitors in the first four months of the year has reached 8.8 million.
The number of international visitors to Vietnam in the first quarter of 2026 also reached a record high of 6.76 million, an increase of 12.4% compared to the same period last year. This is a record high for the first quarter of any year. This figure also marks the first time in three consecutive months that Vietnam has welcomed over 2 million international visitors each month.

In Hanoi , according to information from the Department of Tourism, in the first five months of 2026, the capital's tourism sector continued to record positive growth with approximately 14.98 million visitors, an increase of 17.2% compared to the same period in 2025. Of these, international tourists reached approximately 4.06 million (an increase of 28.1%); domestic tourists reached 10.92 million (an increase of 13.7%).
Total revenue from tourism is estimated at 62.77 trillion VND, an increase of 20.6% compared to the same period last year.
In the first quarter of 2026 alone, Hanoi welcomed 9.05 million tourists, an increase of 23.7%; total revenue from tourism reached 38.22 trillion VND, an increase of 27.2% compared to the same period in 2025.
The accommodation sector continues to maintain positive growth. As of May 2026, Hanoi had 3,761 accommodation establishments with more than 71,200 rooms; the average room occupancy rate in the first five months of the year reached approximately 65.7%.
In 2026, the national tourism industry aims to welcome 25 million international visitors and 150 million domestic visitors. Total revenue is expected to reach approximately 1.1 trillion VND.
Previously, experts considered this a challenge. However, the fact that the number of international visitors to Vietnam has consistently reached record levels has made many more optimistic, even suggesting that the difficult goal will be achieved soon.
