On the afternoon of October 27, at Phnom Penh International Airport, Cambodia, Vietnam Airlines officially launched a direct flight route from Hanoi to Phnom Penh. The new route will contribute to completing the connection and trade network between the two neighboring countries with strongly developing economies.
The opening ceremony was attended by leaders of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Ministry of Tourism and relevant units of Cambodia. Vietnamese Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang and representatives of agencies affiliated to the embassy and a number of Vietnamese businesses operating in the area attended the event.
Previously, on July 13, 2024, within the framework of a State visit to Cambodia, President To Lam attended the inauguration ceremony of the Hanoi-Phnom Penh direct flight. After more than 3 months of preparation, the direct flight between the two capitals has officially come into operation.
As the only Vietnamese airline currently operating direct flights from Hanoi to Phnom Penh, Vietnam Airlines plans to operate four flights per week on the Hanoi-Phnom Penh route on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays using modern Airbus A321 jet aircraft.
The new route brings Vietnam Airlines’ total number of routes between Vietnam and Cambodia to five, including four direct routes: Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to Phnom Penh; Hanoi/Ho Chi Minh City to Siem Reap and one trans-Indochina route. This will bring the total number of flights between the two countries to 86 per week.
Thanks to its high flight frequency and convenient connecting times, the Vietnam-Cambodia route has a strong attraction for tourists from Japan, South Korea and European countries. According to statistics, Vietnam Airlines has transported nearly 8.2 million passengers and 28,400 tons of cargo on more than 81,000 flights between Vietnam and Cambodia over the past three decades.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Nguyen Huy Tang stated that, in addition to the role of a geographical bridge, transiting passengers or goods, direct flights also contribute to creating favorable conditions for people of the two countries to exchange, visit relatives, travel, and contribute to enhancing mutual understanding.
“I also hope that the cooperation agreement signed between Vietnam Airlines, Cambodia National Airlines, Cambodia Tourism Association and Saigontourist Group within the framework of the recent “Two Countries – One Destination” Tourism and Aviation Promotion Program will achieve many specific results, contributing to mutual support in promotional activities, marketing and cooperation of aviation products and services,” the Ambassador emphasized.
Thanking the Vietnamese Government and airlines for always considering Cambodia an important partner in bilateral civil aviation cooperation, Minister in charge of the State Secretariat for the Civil Aviation Authority of Cambodia Mao Havannall affirmed: “I believe that the opening of the direct flight will contribute to facilitating and providing better options for passengers, businessmen, domestic and international tourists, as well as promoting tourism packages developed between our two countries. The inauguration ceremony of the direct flight today will be a symbol of success, close relations and cooperation in all fields between Cambodia and Vietnam”.
On this occasion, Vietnam Airlines would like to thank Lotusmiles members with a double bonus miles promotion for passengers flying Business Class, Economy Flex Class and Economy Standard Class when taking flights from Hanoi to Phnom Penh during the period from October 27 to November 30, 2024. The promotion applies to customers who purchase tickets from now until November 30, 2024 and have a flight period from October 27 to November 30, 2024.
