Due to the impact of Typhoon Wipha, widespread heavy rains and floods from Laos caused thousands of houses in communes on the border of Nghe An to be flooded more than 2m deep. To date, many communes are still flooded, cut off from traffic, and difficult to access.

Under the direction of the Ministry of Science and Technology , Viettel has opened roaming, connecting telecommunications waves so that users of all networks can communicate via Viettel waves in isolated areas. Specifically, Viettel has opened roaming in 16 communes in the border area of Nghe An. Viettel's telecommunications network in communes affected by floods maintains stable operation, meeting communication and rescue needs.

Viettel network in affected provinces (Nghe An, Quang Ninh, Hai Phong, Hung Yen, Ninh Binh, Thanh Hoa) was maintained stable, equivalent to the time before the storm. In these provinces, the demand for mobile services of customers on Viettel network increased sharply, in which data usage increased from 7-21%.

In addition, Viettel is preparing a solution to use drones for broadcasting. Drones fly at an altitude of 100m, creating a coverage area with a radius of 6km, can reach flooded areas, landslides or mountainous terrain in conditions where roads are isolated and broadcasting vehicles cannot reach, ensuring smooth communication for search and rescue operations.

Before the storm, Viettel had prepared backup plans for batteries and generators to operate the station in conditions affected by natural disasters. Viettel mobilized 100 additional stations and cable line information rescue teams; 150 fixed broadband subscriber incident handling teams and 30 generator repair teams to support provinces affected by the storm and circulation. Information rescue supplies in the provinces all had a high reserve ratio.

Viettel is ready to expand mobile connection areas in areas that continue to be affected by storms and floods, supporting people to maintain communication and serving rescue work.
