Qatar midfielder Martin Boyle scored to give Australia a 2-0 lead against Indonesia in their first match of the Asian Cup Round of 16.

Another cross from Australia on the right, this time defender Gethin Jones sent the ball to the far post for Boyle to leap and head low into the empty net. After the header, Boyle was in pain from hitting the post, while coach Shin leaned back and gritted his teeth in disappointment as his team conceded a goal.

Indonesia combined well in front of the penalty area on the right, with Hubner setting up Ferdinand for a long-range shot, but the ball went slightly high. The 20-year-old midfielder also gritted his teeth in disappointment after missing the opportunity.

Hubner received the ball just outside the penalty area, with space on the left, but instead he passed to Ferdinand on the right. The ball hit the far post where Sayuri was unmarked, but he volleyed it over the bar from a difficult position.

During a challenge for an aerial ball, both Mangkualam and Behich resorted to foul play, hitting each other with their hands, causing both of them pain. However, only the Indonesian defender received a yellow card.

Receiving the ball from over 25 meters out to the right, midfielder Hubner curled a shot with his left foot, but the ball went straight into the middle of the goal, allowing the Australian goalkeeper to easily catch it.

Pattynama made a long pass to Struick, but he let the ball go, allowing Sayuri to unexpectedly surge forward. However, goalkeeper Matthew Ryan rushed out to catch the ball, preventing Sayuri from taking a shot.

Striker Bruno Fornaroli played a high-footed ball inside the Indonesian penalty area, resulting in a yellow card. Fornaroli defended himself by saying he was blinded by the sun.

Australia opened the scoring.
Midfielder Jackson Irvine received the ball on the right, crossed it into the box which deflected off defender Baggott's leg and flew towards the Indonesian goal. Goalkeeper Ernando Ari didn't close the angle, so he didn't have time to react and make the save.

Indonesia will face Australia at the Jassim bin Hamad Stadium in Al Rayyan, Qatar, in the Round of 16 of the Asian Cup at 6:30 PM on Sunday, January 28th ( Hanoi time). This marks Indonesia's first time playing in a knockout round match of the Asian Cup.

Indonesia is ranked 146th in the FIFA rankings, 21 places behind Australia. The two teams have met 18 times, with Indonesia winning one, drawing three, and losing 14. The Southeast Asian representative's only victory came in the 1981 World Cup qualifiers, with a score of 1-0.

Indonesia advanced from the group stage after finishing third in Group D with three points, ahead of Vietnam and behind Iraq and Japan. Australia topped Group B with seven points, thanks to wins against India and Syria, and a draw against Uzbekistan.

Australia have always progressed beyond the group stage of the Asian Cup in their appearances, reaching the final in 2011 and winning the title four years later under Ange Postecoglou. In 2019, they were eliminated by the UAE in the quarter-finals.
