Artist Pham Tran Viet Nam’s solo exhibition will take place from May 10 at Le Ba Dang Memorial Space (Kim Son Hill, Thuy Bang Ward, Thuan Hoa District). This is the first young artist to be selected to exhibit at this space.
With 22 works, Pham Tran Viet Nam takes viewers to the "rebirth" in recent years, which is like restructuring old paintings, cutting, splicing... to bring new shapes. The paintings do not describe, do not interpret, but call for intuition. That is what Pham Tran Viet Nam calls "super intuition", a creative state that transcends logic and form, where images are constructed not according to conventional visual rules, but as if summoned from a deep unconscious flow.
Pham Tran Viet Nam shared: “I painted this series of paintings like a sleepwalker. In that state, emotions and energy flowed naturally. Painting was like interpreting the spirit and language of another existence. Gradually, through the continuous working process, I began to understand more deeply the spirit and language of the images I drew. I naturally sympathized and integrated with that other existence…”
Pham Tran Viet Nam, 40 years old, contemporary visual artist, was born in Da Nang and is currently working in Ho Chi Minh City. He graduated with a major in Sculpture from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Fine Arts in 2010, but chose painting, especially oil painting, as the main means of expression in his artistic journey.
Pham Tran Viet Nam was a Finalist of the APB Foundation Signature Art Prize 2018 organized by the National Museum of Singapore, and won the Gold Award of the UOB Painting of the Year Vietnam 2023, one of the most prestigious awards in the regional art community. His works are included in numerous private and institutional art collections, including: Le Thai Son Collection, Lavelle Collection, The Outpost Art Collection, and The UOB Art Collection.
