The AI practical competition, organized by Vietnam Television (VTV), the National Data Center (NDC), and the National Data Association (NDA), officially launched on August 5th.
Real-world AI competition : a technology contest that's also highly entertaining.
Mr. Nguyen Huy, head of the technology committee of the National Data Association, said that one of the biggest challenges of the competition is designing a competition structure that is both accessible, entertaining, and appealing to television viewers, while also creating solutions that ensure professionalism to discover true AI talent.
The organizers researched game shows around the world but could not find any program that fully met these criteria.
"Therefore, the format of this competition is entirely Vietnamese, developed by Vietnamese AI technology experts and registered for trademark and intellectual property protection in Vietnam and the United States," said Mr. Nguyen Huy.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online about the entertainment value of a technology competition, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha - head of the specialized topics and education department (VTV) - shared that this is the first time an AI competition has been broadcast on national television, so it inherently has novel and attractive elements for the public.
Ms. Ha added several "entertaining" elements to the technology competition: each round had a different dramatic element; the prizes were huge and unprecedented for technological talents (first prize was 1 billion VND in cash); the technologies were applied to solve real-world problems at the local and national levels, all of which were familiar issues that people cared about.
"The competition also showcases a humanistic aspect in encouraging and inspiring young people who love technology; supporting technological talents," she said.
Mr. Huy believes that through accompanying programs, workshops, unit tours, and widely broadcasted knowledge dissemination content, practical AI contributes to making high-tech concepts more accessible and useful to all citizens.

Vietnamese people are using foreign AI models that haven't been optimized yet.
The organizers stated that the competition aims to discover and nurture technological talents, develop core AI technologies for the Vietnamese language, promote the AI ecosystem, and contribute to realizing the goals of the National Digital Transformation Strategy.
Why is it necessary to develop a Vietnamese AI core? Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Associate Professor Huynh Dang Chinh ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology) stated that many Vietnamese users are currently using foreign AI models that have not been localized, leading to suboptimal utilization of Vietnamese language data resources. This competition is crucial in addressing this issue.

He explained that after collecting diverse data from multiple sources, including reliable ones, the candidates would have to perform a data "cleaning" and standardization process, forming specialized data repositories for the Vietnamese language, thereby creating specific models capable of integrating algorithms and multimedia communication technologies.
"The main goal is to create a Vietnamese AI model with clean, high-quality data and encourage the entire community to use that clean data," Mr. Chinh stated the purpose.
The AI competition will take place from August to January 2026, consisting of four rounds: preliminary and qualifying, semi-finals, and finals.
The three best teams and the team with the highest number of audience votes will compete live in the Grand Finale Gala, broadcast live on VTV2 and VTV3, to find the champion of the first season.
