The AI competition organized by Vietnam Television (VTV), National Data Center (NDC), and National Data Association (NDA) officially kicked off on August 5.
AI in action , a technology competition but full of entertainment
Mr. Nguyen Huy - Head of Technology Department of National Data Association - said that one of the biggest challenges of the competition is to design a competition structure that is both accessible, entertaining, and attractive to television audiences, while creating solutions that ensure expertise to find real AI talent.
The organizers researched game shows around the world but found no program that fully met these criteria.
“Therefore, this competition format is completely Vietnamese, developed by Vietnamese AI technology experts and registered for trademark protection and intellectual property protection in Vietnam and the US,” said Mr. Nguyen Huy.
Talking to Tuoi Tre Online about the entertainment value of a technology competition, Ms. Nguyen Thu Ha - head of the science and education department (VTV) - shared that this is the first time there has been an AI competition on national television, so it itself has new elements that attract the public.
Ms. Ha only added some “entertaining” elements to a technology competition: each round has a different dramatic element; the prize is huge, unprecedented for technology talents (first prize is 1 billion VND in cash); the technologies are applied, solving practical problems of the locality as well as the country, all of which are close to the heart and of interest to the people.
“The contest also shows a humane aspect in encouraging and inspiring young people who love technology; supporting technology talents,” she said.
Mr. Huy believes that through companion programs, workshops, unitours and widely broadcast knowledge dissemination content, practical AI contributes to making high-tech concepts closer and more useful to everyone.

Vietnamese people use foreign AI models that are not optimized
The organizers announced that the contest aims to discover and nurture technology talents, develop Vietnamese AI core technology, promote the AI ecosystem and contribute to realizing the goals of the National Digital Transformation Strategy.
Why is it necessary to develop a Vietnamese AI core? Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online , Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Dang Chinh ( Hanoi University of Science and Technology) said that many Vietnamese users are currently using foreign AI models that have not been localized, leading to the failure to optimize Vietnamese data resources. This competition is important in overcoming this situation.

He explained that after collecting diverse data from many sources, including reliable sources, candidates will have to "clean" and standardize the data, forming specialized data warehouses for Vietnamese, thereby creating specific models capable of integrating algorithms and multimedia communication technology.
“The main goal is to create a Vietnamese AI model with clean, quality data and encourage the entire community to use that clean data,” Mr. Chinh stated the purpose.
The AI competition will take place from August to January 2026, with four rounds: warm-up and preliminary, semi-final, and final.
The three best teams and one team with the highest number of audience votes will compete directly in the final Gala night, broadcast live on VTV2 and VTV3 to find the first season champion.
