When talking about female writers from the homeland of the Ancestors who are rich in writing talent and have good and impressive works, many readers often mention two writers: Tong Ngoc Han and Vu Thi Huyen Trang.
Huyen Trang was born in 1987, graduated from the 9th course, Faculty of Composition - Theory and Literary Criticism, Hanoi University of Culture. Member of the prose major of the Provincial Literature and Arts Association. Phu Tho , member of Vietnam Writers Association.
With literary talent, abundant and flexible writing ability, from 2010 to now, Huyen Trang has published nearly 20 publications, many of which are loved by readers: Cloud Carriage (Kim Dong Publishing House, 2010), Just Close Your Eyes (Literature Publishing House, 2013), Memories of the Countryside (People's Army Publishing House, 2014), This Afternoon Has an Appointment (Culture and Literature Publishing House, 2017)... Most of the above works are short story collections. Huyen Trang has been awarded more than 20 literary awards from the Central to local levels, including the award of "Writers and Works Magazine" ( Vietnam Writers Association ) organized in 2018, the "Young Author" award - Literary Award of the Vietnam Union of Literature and Arts Associations in 2022.
“The Deep Back of a Human” was published in August 2024. The book includes 22 short stories, reflecting life truthfully and vividly and full of love. With the motto “writing must always stick to life”, many real details in everyday life have also been included by Huyen Trang in her work such as: The hard life of workers, deforestation, the destruction of storms and floods, many house fires in big cities, stories of scamming people over the phone - through social networks...
The characters in this collection of stories are poor, lonely, and unfortunate people like Xiu in “The Displacer”, Tu in “The Crazy Mother Who Always Protects Her Son”, Old Man Vam in “The Statue Faces”, Suong in “Why is it Quiet?”...
Huyen Trang's forte is writing about the mountains, writing about the countryside, writing about poor, lonely, and unfortunate people. Explaining this, Huyen Trang said: "I was born and raised in a poor countryside, attached to honest, sincere farmers. Growing up, no matter where I go or what I do, I still carry the open heart of the countryside people to get acquainted with and be close to ordinary, simple people. I look at myself in them every day, so I have many things to spread out on the pages of my writing."
In this collection of short stories, I was really impressed with three works: “Flower Shoes”, “Spring Backpack to the Top of the Clouds” and “On the Edge of Memory”. These are poetic pages describing nature and the mountains and hills in spring. “The small river is still quiet and peaceful. The bauhinia trees are waiting for the flower season, brimming with dew drops… in the distance, the bauhinia trees have begun to sprout. In no time, standing in this yard and looking down, you will see the pure white flowers blooming along the mountainside…”. These are gentle, humane stories, a haven for the poor and unfortunate...
Written with perseverance, hard work and deep sympathy for the characters, Huyen Trang shared: “Because I do not want to be a person standing on the sidelines of the breath of the times, I try to go beyond the surface of joy to dig deep into the hidden corners of each character's inner self. With the desire to face themselves with them. Even loneliness is lit up sparklingly like a candle.”
