This is not only an occasion to honor the glorious history of the nation, but also a time for the people of the highlands to express their solidarity, pride, and gratitude to the Party, the State, and the local government.
From the end of August, the atmosphere of preparation for Independence Day was bustling throughout Ia Lau commune, Chu Prong district (Gia Lai province). Roads and houses were decorated with red flags bearing yellow stars, creating an atmosphere of excitement and pride. The entire community worked together to clean, prepare traditional dishes, and organize cultural and sporting activities to celebrate this great national holiday.

In previous years, the Muong people in Ia Lau commune organized many traditional activities such as sports competitions, folk games, and unique cultural festivals like bamboo dance, swinging, and throwing the ball, attracting enthusiastic participation from the entire community. This year, however, the Muong people gathered together for Independence Day, visiting each other's homes, jointly slaughtering buffalo, pigs, and chickens to celebrate, wishing each other good health and family prosperity , and demonstrating the solidarity of the ethnic groups.

Mr. Bui Van Duong, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Lau commune, said: "In our commune, the Muong community accounts for 46% of the population and contributes to the socio-economic development, security, and politics of the locality. In particular, they have preserved and promoted traditional cultural features while eliminating outdated customs… The atmosphere leading up to September 2nd is very lively and united. For the Muong people here, Independence Day is a major holiday, comparable to the Lunar New Year."

The Muong people in Ia Lau always remember the contributions of the Party and the State in building and developing their homeland. Under the leadership of the Party, the lives of the people have improved significantly. Programs supporting economic development and infrastructure construction such as roads, schools, and health stations have contributed to improving the quality of life for the people here.
Thanks to the attention of the local government, and with a spirit of eagerness to learn and hard work, the Muong community in particular and other ethnic groups in general have always improved agricultural production, improved crops and livestock, and adopted and applied science to practice. This has gradually transformed the economy, bringing people a prosperous and happy life, contributing to the overall development of the locality.

Ms. Bui Thi Nhan (residing in Hoa Binh village) happily shared: "Our family moved here to the new economic zone in 1993, and we faced many difficulties when we first arrived. With the enthusiastic help of the local government and the support of the indigenous people here, we have achieved what we have today. Therefore, Independence Day is a special holiday for our family and for the Muong people. It is a day for us to remember the contributions of our ancestors, the wise leadership of the Party, and the care and support of the State and the government."
Joining in the joyful atmosphere of the September 2nd holiday, the people of Cao Thang village, Ea Kao commune (Buon Ma Thuot city, Dak Lak province) also participated in cultural and sports activities, with every house displaying red flags and flowers throughout the area. Notably, these activities have become a tradition of the village since the late 20th century.

Amidst the cheers of the spectators at the football field, Mr. Nguyen Van Dan – Secretary of the Cao Thang Village Party Branch – said: "Our Cao Thang village has eight ethnic groups, mainly the Muong, Tay, and Nung people. Although we migrated a long time ago, our people still maintain the cultural tradition of celebrating Independence Day. Therefore, every year on September 2nd, the village organizes cultural and sports activities for everyone to participate in. This has become a tradition from 1996 to the present."

On September 2nd, the final match between the teams from Group 5 and Group 6 will take place. After the activities conclude, the participating teams and villagers will have a celebratory feast to foster a sense of community and solidarity among the neighbors.
Sharing with the reporter, Mr. Luc Van Tuan, residing in Cao Thang village, said: "We are ethnic minorities from the North, who migrated here before the year 2000 as part of the new economic development program. Thanks to the attention of the government, especially the help of the villagers, our family now has enough to eat and live comfortably. I, like other ethnic minorities here, will always be grateful to the Party and the State. September 2nd is also an occasion for us to remember the great contributions of our ancestors who sacrificed for the independence of the nation so that today we can live happily in peace."
