Building upon the tradition of "Discipline and Unity," as well as the heroic fighting spirit of generations of mine self-defense forces, the coal industry's self-defense force is increasingly affirming its position and importance in military and national defense work in Quang Ninh province.

The Military Command of Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company is considered one of the shining examples of local military and national defense work in Quang Ninh . Over the past 10 years, the Military Command of Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company has consistently achieved many outstanding results in implementing the "Determined to Win" emulation movement of the Quang Ninh Armed Forces. In particular, in recent years, the unit has continuously implemented activities with high effectiveness.

Specifically, in 2022, the unit developed a plan and organized a campaign for all officers and staff to participate and win first prize in the competition to learn about the 75-year tradition of the provincial armed forces. In 2023, it organized training and participated in the 12.7mm anti-aircraft machine gun platoon competition, winning first prize in the provincial self-defense category; participated in the Ministry of National Defense competition and won second prize in the entire army. In 2024, it participated in the military shooting competition for regular army forces and militia, winning second prize overall in the self-defense force category; participated in the National Defense Sports Festival, winning second prize overall; and sent athletes to participate in the Military Region-level National Defense Sports Festival, achieving excellent results...

According to Ho Quoc, Director and Commander of the Military Command of Vang Danh Coal Joint Stock Company: Vang Danh Coal is an underground mining unit with a large area and a three-shift production system, making training, combat readiness checks, and mobilization readiness of the company's self-defense force challenging. Despite these limitations, the company always prioritizes the development of its self-defense force and implements solutions to improve the quality of training and combat readiness.

Annually, the company's Military Command Board effectively reviews and selects personnel to supplement the force in a rational manner, in accordance with the prescribed staffing levels, ensuring that each department has core self-defense officers and soldiers. The force building process focuses on cadres and workers within the prescribed age range, with good health, prioritizing those who have completed military service and possess outstanding military capabilities, to train and assign them to leadership positions at various levels within the self-defense battalion. Simultaneously, the unit develops plans, participates in officer training, and prepares adequate facilities for training; proactively coordinates with each department, workshop, and division to agree on training times and personnel numbers to ensure efficiency and avoid impacting production and business operations.

The province currently has 51 self-defense units within the coal industry, including 20 units under the Coal Industry Self-Defense Command Boards directly under the Provincial Military Command and 31 units under the Military Command Boards of districts, towns, and cities. Mr. Pham Van Khoi, Deputy Commander of the TKV Military Command Board, stated: To enhance the effectiveness of the coal industry's self-defense force, TKV has directed its agencies and units to strengthen education and training in national defense and security knowledge for all personnel; regularly consolidate the Military Command Boards, the team of officers in charge of national defense work, and the commanders of self-defense forces at all levels; and ensure sufficient and high-quality reserve mobilization forces. The Group proactively balances its budget to ensure on-site logistical support; organizes the procurement of self-defense uniforms, security equipment, and support tools, ensuring all necessary conditions are met.

The Military Command at all levels also proactively improved the quality of recruitment and conscription of workers, ensuring that the assigned quotas were met; welcomed and provided stable employment for workers returning after completing their military service; and coordinated with military agencies and local authorities to attract young people who had completed their military service to join the Group's production and business workforce...

"The self-defense forces at the units have been leading the production emulation movements, while maintaining high training and combat readiness; mobilizing forces and equipment to coordinate with other forces participating in protecting production, maintaining order and security; participating in disaster prevention and mitigation, fire prevention and control, and providing timely rescue in situations on land and at sea when ordered or as required by local authorities. At the same time, they regularly coordinate and organize combat exercises to protect agencies and units, participate in provincial and district-level defense zone exercises, and carry out military and national defense tasks when necessary," affirmed the Deputy Commander of the Military Command of the Vietnam Coal and Mineral Group.
