Earlier, on the afternoon of December 3rd, in Khuoi Luong hamlet, Tra Linh commune (Cao Bang province), a task force from the Economic Police Department, in coordination with the Traffic Police Team of Cao Bang Provincial Police, discovered a 7-seater car transporting two sealed styrofoam boxes suspected of being used for the illegal trade and transportation of wild animals.

Upon inspection, authorities discovered a total of 12 live Javan pangolins inside the styrofoam containers – a species threatened with extinction and protected by law at the highest level.

Immediately after receiving the information, the Wildlife Conservation Center in Vietnam coordinated with officials and staff of Cuc Phuong National Park to travel hundreds of kilometers to urgently rescue the pangolins. All the animals were confiscated to aid in the investigation of the violation.

Representatives from Cuc Phuong National Park stated that after examination and first aid treatment of the pangolins, it was found that the animals had been force-fed to increase their weight before being sold and were all dehydrated and exhausted. Currently, the 12 pangolins are being transported to the Rescue Center at Cuc Phuong National Park for continued care and rehabilitation.

Representatives from Cuc Phuong National Park also stated that during the end of the year, illegal hunting, transportation, and trading of wild animals become more complex and involve various tactics.

Over the past period, forces at Cuc Phuong National Park have organized numerous rescue and reintroduction operations of Javan pangolins back into the wild, contributing to the protection of many endangered and rare animals belonging to Group IB, which are threatened with extinction globally. Most recently, at the end of November, Cuc Phuong National Park, in coordination with the Wildlife Conservation Center in Vietnam and Bach Ma National Park ( Hue City), released 7 Javan pangolins back into their natural environment.
