Overcoming difficulties in planting and preserving forests.
The Spring of 2025 has arrived, and the forest trees are constantly "shaking" in the spring breeze, shedding their golden leaves. The North Binh Thuan Forestry Enterprise (a member of Binh Thuan Forestry Company Limited) sits gently on a slope, always bustling with birdsong in the early morning. That day, when we arrived, the sun was already high in the sky. Beside a small stone table and chairs, members of the enterprise's forest protection force were hastily drinking hot tea before heading out on duty. Following them towards the hill, we saw green shoots reaching out to cover the barren hills. Under the dry, scorching sun, the acacia and eucalyptus trees grew in rows, healthy, their vibrant green leaves reaching towards the sun. Since receiving the seedlings and planting them, the enterprise has paid close attention to their care. As a result, the survival rate of the trees has reached 90%.
Planting forests is difficult, but preserving forest land here is even more challenging and arduous. Nguyen Van Tam, Deputy Head of the Song Luy - Hoa Thang Forestry Station (Bac Binh), still vividly remembers the patrol on the morning of August 21, 2024, when he and his colleagues were assaulted by those illegally occupying forest land. Mr. Tam recounted: “That morning, as usual, I and three colleagues were patrolling the Trũng Bò area, sub-district 144A, Hồng Lâm village - Hòa Thắng commune, within the forest area of Bắc Bình Thuận Forestry Enterprise, when we discovered that in plot 5, section 1, Mr. PNH and his family members, residing in Lương Nam neighborhood, Lương Sơn town, Bắc Bình district, were brazenly using a tractor to plow the land and sow melon seeds in the area that our unit is assigned to manage. We tried to explain and persuade them, but Mr. H and his relatives not only refused to comply but also hurled insults and abusive language at the forest protection force. At the worst, he even gathered several individuals carrying weapons such as knives, machetes, and sticks... to the scene of the land encroachment. The most aggressive individuals attacked the forest protection force, causing four members of the patrol team to suffer multiple injuries to their heads, faces, and hands, requiring several days of treatment.” “With a vast area, limited personnel, and aggressive encroachment by those involved, we are increasing our vigilance every day, preparing for the worst-case scenario. And in any situation, reforestation remains our top priority. Just seeing the forest grow lush and green makes us happy and motivates us to do our best to fulfill our duties,” Tâm added.
Binh Thuan Forestry Company Limited is leased land and manages natural forests by the State for production and business purposes, with a total area of over 18,000 hectares, including over 10,000 hectares of planted forest. It has maintained FSC international forest certification for eight consecutive years, including rubber, acacia, and eucalyptus. Throughout its development, the company has always prioritized improving the quality of its planted forests. Currently, the company has invested in 100% of its land area. Therefore, to improve the productivity and quality of its planted forests, the company has focused on applying effective forest planting methods and reducing investment costs. One of the solutions is the company's innovation in forest planting and care technology, and the development of highly specialized technical human resources to enhance the productivity and quality of timber from planted forests. Notably, the company has implemented a comprehensive set of solutions to patrol, manage, and protect the forests in each area. The company provides advanced professional training for its forest protection force and contracts with local people, mainly ethnic minorities living near the company's managed areas. Regular patrols and inspections are conducted to promptly prevent violations related to forest and land management. The company actively cooperates with relevant agencies in patrolling, preventing, and handling cases related to forest management and protection. Simultaneously, the company is urgently focusing on completing land legal documentation to facilitate the management and protection of its planted forest assets, as well as investing in long-term forestry projects such as issuing new or renewed land use certificates to stabilize production in line with long-term goals.

Besides its plantation forestry production activities, despite challenging market conditions, the company has implemented various solutions to operate efficiently in the processing of high-end wooden furniture, contributing to job creation and improving the lives of its employees. To date, the company's high-end wooden furniture products, such as tables, chairs, cabinets, beds, living room sets, sofas, and benches, have gradually established a strong foothold among consumers in Binh Thuan province and some neighboring areas. Recently, to celebrate the company's 9th anniversary and the upcoming Lunar New Year 2025, Binh Thuan Forestry Co., Ltd. launched a promotional program for all items sold at its supermarkets and retail stores. This is one of the activities aimed at showing gratitude to the company's customers. Mr. Le Ngoc Cuong, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Binh Thuan Forestry Co., Ltd., shared: "The company has adopted the motto of using customer satisfaction and trust as a measure of success. Therefore, the company is determined to build and develop its wood product brand to a new level, gradually improving the value chain in wood processing activities to suit the trends of the integration era. Currently, the company is producing and trading high-end products from readily available plantation timber with FSC certification and imported timber with clear origins to replace natural plantation timber, with diverse and rich designs to suit customer tastes. In particular, we incorporate customer benefits into each product through promotional programs for all items we sell," Mr. Cuong emphasized.
Aiming for sustainable development, the company will continue to maintain solutions in forest management and protection, and improve forest quality. “We will continue to seek partners and joint ventures with financial capacity and suitability for the business to implement a raw (or refined) processing plant project targeting the export market. This aims to enhance the value of FSC/CoC certified plantation timber, ensuring it meets the standards for export to Japan and the EU... with a minimum capacity of 50,000 tons of wood pellets per year and interior/exterior furniture products to utilize available raw materials from plantation forests. In addition, we will pursue a Carbon Credit agreement to contribute to environmental improvement and increase company revenue from these activities,” Mr. Cuong stated.
