The Serbian tennis player has won 4 Wimbledon championships in the last 4 years and is aiming to match the record of 8 championships of "grass court king" Roger Federer if he wins this year's tournament.

If he defends his title at this tournament, Djokovic will also increase his total number of singles titles in the four Grand Slam tournaments to 24, equaling the current record holder Margaret Court and solidifying his leading position in the men's tennis achievements table (Nadal is the closest, currently with 22 titles).

Novak Djokovic will open Wimbledon 2023 with Pedro Cachin on July 3

“Part of me is very proud and happy to be in this position and have 23 Grand Slams. I want to try to use every opportunity to have more Grand Slams when I feel my body is still healthy, feel motivated" - Djokovic shared.

In other matchups, top seed Carlos Alcaraz will face 36-year-old Jeremy Chardy (ranked 542nd). Third seed Daniil Medvedev will face Arthur Fery (ranked 391st) and fourth seed Casper Ruud, who was beaten by Djokovic in the Roland Garros final, will face France's Laurent Lokoli.

Alcaraz and Djokovic can only meet in the final of this tournament.

“I came into Wimbledon with a lot of confidence and I believed that I could get a good result. But for me, the most important player in the tournament is Djokovic. He always makes everything look easy. It is really difficult to find any weakness in his game. I think I will be able to put pressure on other players, even Djokovic. I feel confident and ready to do good things here,” Alcaraz said before the tournament.

The 2023 Wimbledon tournament will take place from July 3 to July 16. Currently, no television station in Vietnam has announced that it has purchased the broadcasting rights for this tournament.

The Serbian star won Wimbledon 2022 after defeating N. Kyrgios. However, this year the Australian player withdrew at the last minute due to injury. According to the initial draw, Djokovic could meet Kyrigos again in the quarterfinals, but with the new developments, the current champion can breathe a sigh of relief because he avoided a very strange player and a good serve.

The male and female champions of this year's tournament will receive £2.35 million ($3 million) in prize money, equivalent to VND70 billion.
