Gio Hai commune meets new rural standards

Despite facing many difficulties and challenges in the process of building new rural areas (NTM), with the spirit of solidarity, creativity and great determination of the Party Committee, government and people of Gio Hai commune (Gio Linh district), by the end of 2023, the locality had completed 19/19 criteria. These days, cadres, party members and people of all walks of life are happy and excited to receive the certificate of recognition of meeting NTM standards. This is the driving force to help Gio Hai commune continue to write new pages with more impressive achievements on the journey of building NTM.

Gio Hai commune has identified the National Target Program for New Rural Construction as a key and regular task to direct implementation with many specific solutions and actions that bring high efficiency in implementation. The movement of joining hands to build New Rural Construction has been widely launched throughout the commune, with the active participation of cadres and people. Vice Chairman of Gio Hai Commune People's Committee Ho Xuan Thuy said that, implementing the arrangement and merger of commune-level administrative units in Gio Linh district in the period of 2019-2021, Gio Hai and Gio Thanh communes will merge into a new commune called Gio Hai.

After completing the merger of Gio Hai commune, the local government immediately began to perfect the steering committee for new rural construction at the commune level down to the villages; stepped up propaganda work, mobilizing all classes of people to actively participate in new rural construction with many practical and highly effective activities.

At the same time, organize a thorough and comprehensive assessment of the previously achieved and unachieved criteria of the two old localities (Gio Hai and Gio Thanh both achieved 16/19 criteria). From there, deploy an action program to build a comprehensive new rural area for Gio Hai commune in accordance with the actual situation of the locality, creating high consensus in society. In particular, emphasize the determination to complete the goal of achieving 19/19 criteria by the end of 2023, to be recognized as a commune meeting new rural standards.

Coming to Gio Hai commune today, we noticed many changes in the locality. The construction of new rural areas has contributed to making Gio Hai commune have many positive changes in many fields; people's lives are increasingly improved; the face of the countryside is increasingly prosperous...

Gio Hai commune is notable for its agricultural production, which has achieved many remarkable results, especially the development of many high-quality rice growing models associated with product consumption; livestock farming has received investment and development, bringing high economic efficiency. The commune has implemented many positive and effective solutions in developing the marine economy.

The whole commune has 204 boats, with a total capacity of 8,399 CV, of which there are 13 offshore fishing boats and 191 inshore fishing boats. In the first 5 months of 2024, fishermen caught about 1,292 tons of seafood. Infrastructure has been invested, basically meeting the requirements of socio-economic development, directly serving production and people's lives.

Important traffic routes in the commune are asphalted, inter-village roads are concreted to ensure convenience for people and vehicles. Building new rural areas has contributed to improving the quality of cultural fields and sports activities. In particular, the movement of the whole people uniting to build a cultural life associated with the movement of building new rural areas and civilized urban areas stands out...

The whole commune currently has 6/6 villages achieving the title of cultural residential area; 95% of households achieving the title of cultural family. In the field of education and training, the facilities serve teaching and learning well; the commune has implemented universal preschool education for 5-year-old children; universal primary and secondary education; and implemented well the movements to encourage learning and talent. Health care for the people has been paid attention to and implemented effectively.

In recent years, Gio Hai commune has implemented many positive solutions to support people in economic development, hunger eradication and poverty reduction; focusing on effectively implementing social security work, policies for people with meritorious services...

People's lives are increasingly improved, with average income per capita in 2023 reaching 50 million VND. The whole commune still has 81 poor households and 97 near-poor households. People's houses are invested in and built solidly and spaciously; the removal of dilapidated and makeshift houses is actively implemented.

Up to now, there are no more makeshift, dilapidated houses in the commune. The local defense and security sector has been strengthened, security and order have been ensured; many security and order protection models have been established such as: the family model of educating children not to violate the law and social order; self-management groups for boats and docks... have been put into effective operation.

Party and government building work has been given attention and focus. The political system has been constantly consolidated and its comprehensive strength has been promoted; the contingent of cadres and civil servants has been increasingly improved in terms of politics, professional capacity, spirit and attitude in serving the people. The people trust the leadership of the Party and the management of the local government, thereby becoming more active in participating and contributing to the development of their homeland.

Chairman of Gio Hai Commune People's Committee Tran Viet Nam said that completing the set target of achieving 19/19 criteria in building new rural areas by the end of 2023 and being recognized as a commune meeting new rural standards is a great joy for the cadres, party members and people of Gio Hai Commune. Successfully implementing new rural construction has made an important contribution to socio-economic development, political stability, maintaining national defense and security, and constantly improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
