In 2024, Hong Son suffered heavy damage from two major storms and prolonged heavy rains and floods, affecting thousands of households. Entering 2025, given its characteristics as a large commune with a dense population and many low-lying areas prone to flash floods, Hong Son commune is developing a comprehensive disaster response plan. This plan includes aspects such as assessing climate trends until the end of 2025, plans for protecting dikes, dams, and irrigation works, scenarios for flooding, response measures, and the allocation of supplies, personnel, and rescue equipment.

At the conference, delegates shared experiences in directing responses to flooding, overcoming difficulties in coordinating forces, and proposed solutions to improve the effectiveness of civil defense work in the new context.

He stressed that agencies and units in the area should focus on reviewing high-risk areas for landslides, flash floods, and flash floods, develop evacuation plans for residents, and proactively ensure the safety of dikes, embankments, and dams.

In addition, agencies and units should effectively implement the plan for inland irrigation, clear waterways, repair bridges and culverts, and inspect key infrastructure; develop appropriate plans to protect agricultural production, livestock farming, and aquaculture, minimizing damage caused by extreme weather. The duty roster, information sharing, and damage reporting during the rainy and stormy season must be maintained seriously and promptly to support practical guidance and management.
