Hung My commune develops collective economy

Hung My commune is located along the Co Chien river, with a natural area of 2,794 hectares, of which agricultural land is 1,699 hectares (751 hectares of rice, 126 hectares of crops, 110 hectares of aquaculture land...), the commune has 08 hamlets, with 2,525 households and 8,647 people. With favorable conditions in agricultural production and rural labor force, it is the basis for Hung My commune to deploy the construction of collective economic models.

The Party Committee directed the government, sectors and organizations to promote propaganda and mobilize people to build economic development models in agricultural production, increasing production value. Propaganda content closely follows local political tasks and practical life of the people; propaganda goals are specific and suitable to local development conditions. Thereby, supporting and helping each other to develop the economy, models suitable to reality have attracted a large number of union members, association members and the masses to participate, contributing to job creation, increasing income, economic development, promoting localities to successfully build criteria for advanced new rural construction, moving towards model new rural construction. Since then, many typical economic models have emerged among union members, association members and people through the association to establish cooperatives and groups. The form of propaganda is through meetings to mobilize people to participate in the model, training in science and technology; mobilize people to change old, ineffective farming habits... thereby raising people's awareness, contributing with local Party committees and authorities to develop the collective economy and build a new life.

Up to now, Hung My commune has developed 32 cooperatives, with 779 members participating in many effective production models, such as: 232ha organic rice production model, with 267 participating households; yellow apricot growing group; coconut growing combined with aquaculture; civet farming model; garden combined with wax coconut growing 1.1ha; eel farming 0.6ha; growing colors in net houses 0.5ha; growing colors with automatic watering 1.2ha... developing agricultural cooperatives, with 63 members, operating effectively.

Most of the models are effective, bringing high profits, averaging over 150 million VND/ha/year. Notably, Chau Long Pearl Rice product of Chau Hung Agricultural, Trade and Service Cooperative has been recognized as a 4-star OCOP product and is completing the dossier to submit to the Appraisal Council to recognize 01 OCOP product that meets 3-star standards.

Comrade Duong Thi Kim Phuong, Vice Chairman of Hung My Commune People's Committee, highly appreciated the organic rice growing model in Ngai Loi hamlet, the yellow apricot growing group in Rach Giua hamlet, and coconut growing combined with aquaculture in Con Co hamlet.

Since 2020, Ngai Loi hamlet has implemented an organic rice growing model and has so far developed to reach 142/166ha of area in the entire hamlet. Farmer Truong Ngoc Thanh is a pioneer in implementing the model, confiding: implementing an organic rice growing model has many advantages compared to rice production using chemical fertilizers, such as: low cost; high productivity, rice price; retaining alluvium and loose soil.

Mr. La Quoc Yen, Chairman of the Board of Directors and Director of Chau Hung Agricultural, Trade and Service Cooperative, said: The Cooperative invests in rice varieties (0M4900, OM576, ST25), organic fertilizers, production processes, and product consumption for farmers until after harvest to recover investment capital, without interest. In the organic rice growing model in 2023, the Cooperative will cooperate to develop in Long Hoa and Hoa Minh communes (Chau Thanh district) 50 hectares and Tan Hiep and Long Hiep communes (Tra Cu district) 100 hectares.

Promoting the role of developing collective economy, Hung My commune continues to transfer science and technology applied to production, mobilizing people to actively participate in developing cooperative economy, cooperatives, production according to concentrated models, according to the planning of each region. Implementing programs and policies to support restructuring of agricultural economy, developing enterprises, coordinating with functional sectors to guide and support enterprises to expand production and business scale; supporting farmers, cooperatives, cooperatives to link with enterprises in production and consumption of products.

Build and develop the commune's key OCOP products. Coordinate with relevant departments to advise and support the process of establishing new cooperatives and replicating effective production models. Focus on developing effective operating models of cooperatives and groups. Focus on building production models associated with eco-tourism. Build the commune's key brand, ensuring quality products to meet market demand. Invite businesses to invest in equipment, technical processes, technology and human resource training to develop agriculture in the direction of high technology.
