On the evening of January 11, a fire broke out at the Duoc market in Hung Chinh commune, Vinh city. Fortunately, the fire was discovered in time, so the local authorities and functional forces were present to put out the fire in a short time. Although there were no human casualties, many goods prepared for Tet by the people were damaged, completely burned, and had to be destroyed.
Mr. Nguyen Hong Quang - Chairman of the People's Committee of Hung Chinh Commune, Vinh City said: In the past few days, the locality has focused on cleaning up the scene and verifying the cause of the fire. Initial determination was that the fire started from a garment kiosk. That evening, the kiosk owner used an iron to repair clothes, then, due to carelessness, he forgot to turn off the iron and went home. This was also the cause of the fire.
“Currently, the locality has worked with the market management board, requiring traders selling flammable items, especially votive offerings, to move their goods from the warehouse to outside areas, in well-ventilated areas for business, in case of a fire, so that it can be handled promptly. Previously, because the goods were kept in the warehouse, the locked door also affected the fire fighting work, the force had to break the door to carry out the task…” Mr. Quang emphasized.
A representative of the Duoc Market Management Board said: On the afternoon of January 14, the unit cleaned up and destroyed all the burnt and damaged goods, returning the premises to their original state. The businesses of the traders have returned to normal in recent days.
Regarding the issue of damage recovery, the traders who caused the fire have also worked in an open-minded manner, reaching an agreement with the affected households on compensation methods. Currently, traders at Duoc market have also joined hands to support the households that suffered losses in the recent fire.
During the Lunar New Year, the production, business, and storage of goods increase, the level of electricity consumption is high; in dry weather conditions, there will be a risk of fire safety. Therefore, organizations, individuals, households, small traders... need to raise the spirit of vigilance, strictly implement fire prevention and fighting measures. In fact, fires have occurred in markets such as Vinh market (2006, 2011, 2018), Hung Dung market (2019)... causing billions of dong in damage.
