Identifying the referee team for the most special match in V.League

VTC NewsVTC News19/02/2025

The Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) Referee Board has appointed Mr. Do Khanh Nam as the main referee for the match between Quang Nam and Thanh Hoa (rescheduled match of round 11 of V.League 2024-2025). Mr. Nam's two assistants are Nguyen Thanh Son and Pham Hoai Tam. The fourth referee is Mr. Duong Huu Phuc. The video referees (VAR) are Mai Xuan Hung and Nguyen Trung Hau.

Mr. Do Khanh Nam is one of the least experienced referees in the V.League, debuting in the tournament in December 2023. The Vietnam Football Federation sent this referee in black to take additional professional courses from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) not long ago. Meanwhile, assistants Thanh Son and Hoai Tam are both experienced faces. VAR referee Mai Xuan Hung has caused many controversies and made mistakes in the V.League.

Mr. Nam and his colleagues will face a lot of pressure. Both Quang Nam and Thanh Hoa are teams that appeared in controversies in round 13 of the V.League. The head coaches of these two clubs were banned from directing the match at Tam Ky Stadium (Quang Nam) this afternoon (February 19) due to their reaction to the referee.

This is the first match in V.League where both teams do not have a head coach directly in charge. Coach Van Sy Son (Quang Nam) received a 2-match suspension. His colleague Velizar Popov received a red card in the previous match.

After the 4-4 draw with Hanoi Police Club, Coach Van Sy Son publicly criticized the "judges": " I am very upset with the referee today. We are trying to create new vitality because we have accepted to pursue the game. However, if the referee problem continues like this, football will go downhill."

Meanwhile, Thanh Hoa team sent a complaint regarding the refereeing in the match against Ho Chi Minh City. This match was officiated by FIFA referee Le Vu Linh but left many flaws.

The first incident occurred in the 45+2 minute when coach Velizar Popov received a second yellow card and was sent off. According to the International Football Association Board (IAFB) regulations, a coach or match official is shown a yellow card if he directly reacts to an official referee decision. However, Mr. Popov was said to be complaining to his own players.

In addition, in the petition, the Thanh Hoa team continued to point out many more mistakes made by Mr. Le Vu Linh. Afterwards, the Head of the VFF Referee Board - Mr. Dang Thanh Ha said that most of the referees did their job well, blowing accurately in decisive situations.
