The match between Thanh Hoa and HAGL was a back-and-forth affair with little creativity for most of the game. Both teams started confidently and pressed aggressively, but the quality of their passes was still lacking.
Despite possessing young stars like Van Thuan and Ngoc My, Thanh Hoa still failed to create any notable scoring opportunities. In the following minutes, Thanh Hoa mainly relied on early crosses from the flanks, but without success. The first half ended in a 0-0 draw.
Entering the second half, the game remained largely deadlocked for both teams. Unexpectedly, HAGL took the lead in the 60th minute. From a simple play, Gia Bảo executed a superb first touch, beating two Thanh Hóa defenders before finishing neatly to give the visitors the lead.

After conceding a goal, Thanh Hoa made an effort to push forward in search of an equalizer. In the 51st minute, from a cross by Que Ngoc Hai, Mamadou Mbodj rose high to head the ball powerfully, but it hit the crossbar. The Thanh Hoa coach then brought Rimario onto the field, but he was also unable to change the course of the game.
On the other side, HAGL proactively withdrew their attacking players to preserve their advantage. In the 88th minute, the visitors sealed the match with a goal from Cao Hoang Minh. The player received the ball on the edge of the penalty area and unleashed a powerful shot, securing a 2-0 victory for HAGL on Thanh Hoa's home ground in the National Cup qualifying round.
