Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee requested to review and urgently repair degraded schools.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee urgently directed and requested a comprehensive review, repair, and rebuild of degraded school facilities, prioritizing the handling of Vinh Tan Primary School.

On the morning of September 22, facing the serious deterioration of public school facilities in the area, posing a potential safety risk to students and teachers, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc signed an urgent directive, requesting departments, branches and localities to take immediate action.

According to the direction, the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City must coordinate with the People's Committees of wards and communes to conduct a comprehensive review of school facilities, classify the level of damage to have a specific treatment plan.

Severely degraded schools need to be repaired immediately, while areas with rapid population growth must consider building new ones to avoid overload. All review results and master plans must be reported to the City People's Committee before September 30.

Vinh Tan Primary School (Vinh Tan Ward) is one of the facilities that is required to be urgently dealt with. Many classrooms here have peeling and rusty desks and chairs, and the classrooms are seriously degraded.

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Department of Education and Training to coordinate with the Department of Finance to immediately arrange tables, chairs, and replacement equipment to ensure safe learning conditions for students at Vinh Tan Primary School. The deadline is September 23.

According to the plan, Vinh Tan Primary School will be provided with 284 additional sets of two-seat desks and chairs, including 170 new sets and 114 used sets.

The Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City directed to immediately arrange replacement tables, chairs, and equipment at Vinh Tan Primary School before September 23.

Not only stopping at a specific case, the City People's Committee also requested localities to proactively allocate budget to immediately repair items at risk of being unsafe. Districts must complete the review and send reports to the Department of Education and Training before September 25.

At the same time, the Department of Finance is assigned to develop a plan for budget allocation and capital arrangement for school repair, upgrading and construction in the period 2025 - 2030. The City People's Committee Office is responsible for monitoring, urging and synthesizing reports to the Chairman of the City People's Committee.
