This competition was launched by the Ministry of Health in 2024, with widespread participation from the nationwide healthcare system, including both public and private sectors, with over 2,000 healthcare facilities from 34 provinces and cities participating.
In the end, 20 medical facilities across 5 primary healthcare systems were selected by the Ministry of Health to receive awards after one year of launching the campaign. Quang Nam Regional General Hospital was awarded the Encouragement Prize in the provincial-level medical facility group.
Green - clean - beautiful
For many years, Quang Nam Regional General Hospital has gradually become a model in implementing the "Green, Clean, and Beautiful Healthcare Facility" model according to the criteria set by the Ministry of Health.
The green of the plants and the cleanliness of each corridor give patients a sense of reassurance from the moment they step inside.
The "Green, Clean, and Beautiful Healthcare Facility" criteria, issued by the Ministry of Health, aim to improve the healthcare environment, enhance the experience, and protect the health of patients and healthcare workers. The criteria include: a green environment (trees, landscaping), cleanliness (infection control, medical waste management), and beauty (well-maintained and logically arranged facilities), along with elements of civility, safety, and friendliness.

At Quang Nam Regional General Hospital, these criteria are being gradually concretized. Mr. Nguyen Tai, Director of Quang Nam Regional General Hospital, said that each item set by the Board of Directors has received the agreement of all medical staff and employees throughout the hospital: from planting trees to cover the grounds and creating small landscapes for patients to relax, to investing in a closed-loop medical waste treatment system and sorting waste at the source, ensuring no environmental pollution.
The first thing that immediately catches the eye upon entering the hospital is the spacious courtyard, interspersed with meticulously maintained flowerbeds.
The hospital's management stated that they have completely redesigned the campus, maximizing the use of green space, while also improving internal pathways, ambulance access, and wheelchair access, ensuring smooth traffic flow while maintaining a harmonious landscape.
In particular, the wards all feature the green color of plants, which helps to alleviate some of the patients' anxiety.
Civilized and friendly
"A clean hospital isn't just about being free of trash, but also about having fresh air, no unpleasant odors, and no disease-causing bacteria," shared an infection control officer.

The hospital has implemented a scientific hygiene procedure: wiping floors and disinfecting surfaces multiple times a day; providing hand sanitizer in all departments...
The toilets – a common problem in many healthcare facilities – have been renovated and equipped with modern facilities, ensuring they are always dry and odor-free.
One of the hospital's highlights is its state-of-the-art medical waste management system. Waste is sorted at the point of origin: hazardous medical waste, recyclable waste, and general household waste.
The waste storage area is separate, well-ventilated, and clearly labeled. Hazardous medical waste is transferred to a designated treatment facility in accordance with regulations; under no circumstances should it be left to accumulate and cause pollution.

In addition, the hospital organizes regular training for staff on waste collection, transportation, and disposal procedures, ensuring safety for both staff and the community.
The Ministry of Health's criteria also set requirements regarding service attitude: gentle, dedicated, and respectful towards patients.
At the patient reception area, there are always staff on duty, providing attentive guidance from procedures to directions to the examination rooms.
All information regarding benefits and medical examination and treatment procedures is clearly and transparently posted.
Mr. Nguyen Tai believes that implementing the "green, clean, and beautiful" criteria is an investment in public health, building trust among patients.
