According to the report of the Ministry of Industry and Trade , in the first 6 months of 2025, the total accumulated electricity output of the entire national system is estimated at 156.4 billion kWh, 3.04% higher than the same period in 2024, reaching 45% of the 2025 plan; the largest consumption capacity of the national power system reached 51,672 MW, 5.7% higher than the same period in 2024.
Power supply plan for the remaining months, the total electricity production and import output in 2025 is estimated to reach 331.4 billion kWh, an increase of 7.39% compared to 2024. For 2026, 3 scenarios for electricity demand growth will be developed, specifically: Baseline scenario with growth of 10-12%, corresponding to GDP growth of about 6.5-7% and normal weather conditions; high scenario with growth of 13-14%, corresponding to GDP growth of more than 7% and prolonged heat waves; and extreme scenario with growth of over 15%, corresponding to breakthrough economic growth targets and widespread extreme weather.
In Quang Tri, the province currently has 33 power plants and 151 rooftop solar power systems in operation with a total capacity of 1,119.5 MW. In the period of 2024 - 2025, it is expected that 4 wind power plants with a total capacity of 156 MW and 7 hydropower plants with a total capacity of 93 MW will be put into operation and generate commercial electricity. This is a relatively large source of electricity supply compared to the electricity demand in the area.
Regarding connection to the national power system, wind power projects in Quang Tri mainly transmit to the 220 kV grid, the remaining power plants generate electricity directly to the 110 kV and 22 kV distribution grids.
In the province, there is the Hai Lang LNG Thermal Power Plant Project Phase 1 - 1,500 MW invested by the consortium of T&T Group Joint Stock Company, Hanwha Energy Joint Stock Company, Korea Gas Corporation (KOGAS), and South Korea Electric Power Corporation (KOSPO). The project is expected to be put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2029.
In addition, Quang Tri has a cluster of projects for synchronous transmission grid and power source capacity release, including: Lao Bao 500kV transformer station (Huong Hoa district) and connecting 220kV line; Lao Bao 500kV line - Quang Tri 2 500kV switching station; Quang Tri 2 500kV switching station. The projects are invested by Vietnam Electricity Group. According to the schedule, these projects will be operational in 2027.
Regarding the plan to ensure power supply in 2025 in the area, the People's Committee of Quang Tri province requested Quang Tri Power Company and member units of the Central Power Corporation to deploy and implement the 2025 power supply plan flexibly, ensuring efficiency, in accordance with the current status of power sources and grids in the locality; ensure proactive handling plans when power shortages occur, reduce power output during the peak summer season of 2025 according to regulations.
At the conference, leaders of the Ministry of Industry and Trade informed and discussed difficulties and obstacles in the progress of key power source and grid projects including hydropower, coal-fired thermal power, gas-fired power, LNG thermal power, nuclear power, wind power; projects under the Power Plan VIII... nationwide.
