Building a comprehensively strong and exemplary Hau Giang province military force

People's Army Newspaper had an interview with Colonel Pham Van Than, Commander of Hau Giang Provincial Military Command, about this issue.

Colonel Pham Van Than: This is a particularly important historical milestone, an opportunity for the provincial armed forces to review the glorious revolutionary tradition of the nation; a source of great inspiration and motivation for cadres and soldiers of the provincial armed forces to promote the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, determined to train and improve combat readiness. It should be emphasized that today's Hau Giang region is partly the site of many fierce battles during the resistance years; the indomitable fighting spirit of our army and people at that time continues to be a source of great spiritual strength for today's generation.

Every cadre and soldier is deeply aware of his or her responsibility in protecting the revolutionary achievements that generations of fathers and brothers have shed blood to gain. Especially, in the context of the complicated developments in the world and the region, hostile forces are intensifying sabotage activities, reviewing the glorious revolutionary tradition is even more important, helping to foster patriotism, national pride and revolutionary vigilance for cadres and soldiers.

Colonel Pham Van Than: Implementing the direction of the Military Region 9 Command, the Provincial Party Committee, and the People's Committee of Hau Giang Province, we launched a special emulation movement "50 days of victory", with the theme "Solidarity, discipline, creativity, development, efficiency". The emulation movement was widely deployed from the Provincial Military Command, to affiliated units, Military Commands of districts, towns, cities, and militia and self-defense forces in the area.

Specifically, we focus on 3 key points: Improving the quality of training and combat readiness; promoting the study and following of Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and style, associated with the Campaign "Promoting tradition, dedicating talent, worthy of being Uncle Ho's soldiers in the new period; strengthening mass mobilization work, implementing well the movement "Provincial armed forces join hands for the poor - leaving no one behind", the program "eliminating temporary houses, dilapidated houses"... Besides, we have also successfully organized competitions such as: "Healthy to protect the Fatherland", "Exhibition of books on the theme of the April 30 victory", "Victory over 75 enemy battalions", "Singing of revolutionary soldiers", organizing film screenings...

Colonel Pham Van Than: Thoroughly grasping the viewpoint of "Training close to actual combat, close to combat targets, close to defense areas", we have strongly shifted to "training according to the motto of close to actual combat", increasing practical exercises, practicing combat in different environments. In particular, we organize combat readiness training in the defense areas of provinces, districts, and cities and large-scale disaster prevention and search and rescue drills, using weapons and equipment in key areas.

We have applied digital technology to training through simulation software and online assessment systems, helping to improve the effectiveness and practicality of training; implementing the "Smart Army" program, we have initially built an "Electronic Library" with electronic lesson plans and lectures to serve training work.

We also innovate training methods towards self-study and self-training of officers and soldiers, combined with organizing emulation campaigns of "Military Science - Innovation Initiatives" to improve training effectiveness. In 2025, the whole province had more than 20 initiatives and innovations in training, which were widely applied and brought practical results. In particular, we focus on training skills to adapt to high-tech warfare, cyber warfare and electronic warfare.

Colonel Pham Van Than: Promoting the tradition of "The army and the people are like fish and water", we always identify the task of combining military - defense with local socio-economic development as one of the important tasks.

Accordingly, we have effectively advised the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial People's Committee in developing and implementing programs and plans for socio-economic development associated with strengthening national defense and security. In particular, we have advised on the development and implementation of the Project "Strengthening the combination of socio-economic development with national defense and security in Hau Giang province for the period 2021 - 2025", contributing to improving people's lives and creating a solid position of people's hearts.

The provincial military always grasps the local situation, proactively coordinates with staff forces with local Party committees and authorities to do a good job of combat readiness, handling situations, avoiding being passive or surprised; advises on the implementation of provincial and district defense area drills and annual commune-level defense combat to meet the resolution targets.

In addition, the key task of selecting and calling citizens to join the army has been well performed, ensuring compliance with the law and constantly improving quality. At the same time, the Provincial Military Command focuses on building an elite standing force, a ready reserve force and a strong militia and self-defense force in accordance with regulations. Regularly organize training courses and educate subjects on national defense and security knowledge according to plan.

The Provincial Military Command has also implemented many activities of "Repaying gratitude", "Drinking water, remembering its source"; coordinated with organizations to visit and give gifts to many families of policy beneficiaries, war invalids, martyrs and people with meritorious services to the revolution.

Colonel Pham Van Than: Inheriting and promoting the spirit of the April 30 victory, we are determined to continue promoting the spirit of victory. In the immediate future, we will focus on completing key tasks such as: Building a strong, compact, and regular force; a strong and widespread reserve force and militia; striving for 100% of commanders at all levels to receive basic and advanced training in political theory, military, and law; 95% of units to meet the standards of "comprehensive strength", "exemplary, typical"; building a militia to reach 1.5% of the population.

Focus on political and ideological education, promote the exemplary role of cadres and party members. Continue to promote studying and following Ho Chi Minh's ideology, morality and lifestyle, build a team of cadres and party members who are "both red and professional".

The spirit of victory on April 30 will forever be a great source of strength, motivating officers and soldiers of the Hau Giang Provincial Armed Forces to strive and excellently complete all assigned tasks.
