Building a VC09 cucumber production model following VietGAP in Hai Duong province (Hai Phong city)

On the afternoon of August 15, the Department of Science and Technology of Hai Phong organized a conference to consult, evaluate and accept the city-level science and technology task: "Building a VC09 cucumber production model according to VietGAP in Hai Duong province (Hai Phong city)". The task was chaired by the Institute of Food Crops and Food Plants, with Ms. Do Thi Huong as the chair.

To achieve the goal of building a VC09 cucumber production model following VietGAP, with a scale of 70 hectares, achieving a yield of 40-45 tons/ha for the Spring-Summer crop and 35-40 tons/ha for the Autumn-Winter crop; perfecting the technical process of producing VC09 cucumbers following VietGAP in accordance with the conditions of Hai Duong province (Hai Phong city). The project management board has carried out 4 main contents, including: Surveying and selecting locations to implement the model; building a VC09 cucumber production model following VietGAP; perfecting the technical process of producing VC09 cucumbers following VietGAP in accordance with the conditions of Hai Duong province (Hai Phong city); disseminating the implementation results.

To implement the research, the Project Management Board conducted a survey and selected a location to implement the VC09 cucumber production model according to VietGAP with a scale of 70 hectares. The results showed that in the 70 hectares implementing the model, there were 20 hectares for the Autumn-Winter crop and 50 hectares for the Spring-Summer crop. The growing period is 65-85 days, after planting, the fruit begins to be harvested 30-37 days, the fruit harvest time is 30-45 days. The stem, leaves and skin of the fruit are dark green, with white thorns, the fruit is 20.5-24 cm long, the fruit diameter is 4.1-4.3 cm, the average fruit weight is 172.5-175.8 grams/fruit, the flesh is thick, solid, crispy, not bitter at the tip of the fruit, and is resistant to downy mildew. The yield of the Spring-Summer crop reached 45.13-49.59 tons/ha, and that of the Autumn-Winter crop reached 45.70-51.34 tons/ha. The food safety indicators analyzed on VC09 cucumbers in the model were all below the allowable limit. Through the synthesis of economic efficiency data from 2023 to 2025, it can be seen that the VC09 cucumber variety always achieves a net profit 22.44%-32.18% higher than traditional cucumber varieties such as G7, Hunter331 or VA.886 grown locally.

Regarding the completion of the technical process of producing VC09 cucumbers in the direction of VietGAP suitable for the conditions of Hai Duong province ( Hai Phong city). The project management board has studied the quantity of fertilizer converted to NPK suitable for 1 hectare: 10 tons of organic microbial fertilizer or 15 tons of decomposed organic fertilizer + (140 - 145) kgN + (85 - 90) kgP ₂ O ₅ + (155 - 160) kgK ₂ O. Use pesticides to prevent pests and diseases in accordance with the 4 correct principles. Only use pesticides with active ingredients allowed to be applied to cucumbers in the list of pesticides issued by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. During the harvest period, priority is given to using pesticides with a short isolation period (3 days). The study also showed some plant protection active ingredients used in the prevention and control of major pests and diseases on cucumbers such as: downy mildew, white-striped green worms and thrips.

With the above results, the Scientific Council unanimously accepted the results of the task implementation after the Project Management Board revised and supplemented the following contents: Supplementing the general superiority of VC09 cucumber as the basis for implementing the project; Clarifying the economic value and nutritional value of VC09 cucumber variety; unifying the scientific names of diseases... Finally, reviewing the season; reviewing the economic efficiency and input costs of the model to complete the report./.
