During the peak travel season of the Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake), passenger buses in Ho Chi Minh City increased ticket prices by 40-60% compared to normal days to compensate for empty return trips.
During the peak period of the 2025 Lunar New Year (Year of the Snake), from January 19th to February 7th (corresponding to the 20th day of the 12th lunar month to the 10th day of the 1st lunar month), the new Eastern Bus Station (Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City) is projected to see over 140,000 passengers. This represents a slight increase compared to the same period during the recent Lunar New Year (Year of the Dragon).
Nevertheless, the management board of the new Eastern Bus Station believes that the number of passengers passing through the station is still much lower than expected, considering it is the largest interprovincial bus station in the country.

From January 24-26, 2025 (corresponding to December 25-27 in the lunar calendar), this bus station will have its busiest period with approximately 11,300-13,000 passengers per day; on other days, the number will be around 7,000-8,000.
Transport companies are allowed to adjust ticket prices during Tet (Lunar New Year) but not by more than 40-60% compared to normal days to compensate for empty return trips. This increase will be applied based on route and time, and transport companies must post specific information for terminals to monitor.
At the old Eastern Bus Station (Binh Thanh District), which serves fixed routes from Ho Chi Minh City to provinces in the Eastern and Central Highlands regions, the total number of passengers during this year's peak Tet holiday is projected to exceed 180,000, a slight increase compared to the same period last year. The station has planned to arrange over 9,300 bus trips to meet demand. Simultaneously, bus ticket prices at the station are permitted to increase by 40-60%.
Similarly, the Western Bus Station (Binh Tan District) forecasts a slight increase in passenger traffic during this year's Tet holiday compared to the same period last year. From January 19th to February 7th, 2025, the station expects to serve over 437,000 passengers, equivalent to 16,400 bus trips.
On the peak day of December 27th (lunar calendar), a record number of nearly 63,000 passengers is predicted. During this Tet holiday, transportation companies are allowed to adjust ticket prices with a maximum increase of 40%.
