Nghe An Despite a sign prohibiting vehicles over 12 tons, a concrete mixer truck weighing over 16 tons still passed through, causing the Lim bridge in Ngoc Son commune, Thanh Chuong district to collapse.
At 2:30 p.m., the Lim bridge over the spillway of a small irrigation dam in Ngoc Son commune collapsed after a loud noise and the revving of a concrete mixer truck. The entire 5-meter long, 3-meter wide bridge girder and the truck sank deep under the spillway. The driver escaped, but the accident prevented many motorbikes and cars from moving through the area.

Mr. Thai Van An, Chairman of Ngoc Son Commune, said that the tanker truck of a local construction company was transporting fresh concrete for a new rural project in the commune at that time. The company pledged to cover the cost of rebuilding the new bridge.
"Lim Bridge was built more than 40 years ago and is now degraded, so the government has put up signs prohibiting vehicles over 12 tons from passing through. Recently, the commune has been working on a new rural project, so trucks carrying materials pass through every day, making the project weaker," said Mr. An, adding that after the incident, people can travel via a 5-meter-wide inter-village detour nearby.
At 5:00 p.m. the same day, the rescue team was still trying to pull the tanker up.
