"Billion dollar" commune
The new Son My commune was established on the basis of merging 3 commune-level administrative units: Son My, Tan Thang, Thang Hai (old), with an area of 254.52 km2 and a population of 26,599 people. Notably, the economic structure of the new Son My commune continues to shift towards increasing the proportion of industry - services, gradually reducing agriculture but still plays a key role.
Son My is a commune with great potential for industrial development and energy services with projects in Son My 1 Industrial Park. Son My 1 Industrial Park (now in Son My commune, Lam Dong province) was established under Official Dispatch No. 1956/TTg-CN dated December 20, 2017 of the Prime Minister by Son My Industrial Park Infrastructure Investment, Construction and Trading Company Limited (IPICO) as the investor with a scale of 1,070 hectares and a total registered investment capital of VND 2,300 billion. Up to now, Son My 1 Industrial Park has 3 key projects in the Son My gas and power chain that have been approved for investment with a scale of 156,123 hectares and a registered investment capital of 5.4 billion USD.
Currently, Son My 1 Industrial Park has completed compensation work with an area of 86.79 hectares. The remaining area of 983.21 hectares is continuing to carry out compensation and site clearance work; focusing on the area of 375 hectares of 7 organizations (228 hectares) and 78 households (51.55 hectares) to hand over the site for 3 key BOT projects Son My I, Son My II and Son My LNG Port Warehouse. For the Son My Resettlement Area Technical Infrastructure Project (phase 1) has been approved with an area of about 1.44 hectares, it is expected to arrange about 76 resettlement plots. The compensation plan of 7 households has been approved, waiting for Project Management Board No. 2 to transfer funds to organize compensation payments.
For the Son My 2 Industrial Park project, phase 1 was established under Decision No. 1002/QD-TTg dated August 28, 2023 of the Prime Minister by Dong Sai Gon Industrial Development and Investment Joint Stock Company as the investor with a scale of 468.35 hectares and a total registered investment capital of VND 1,717 billion. On February 16, 2024, the Provincial Industrial Park Management Board granted an Investment Registration Certificate to Dong Sai Gon Industrial Development and Investment Joint Stock Company. To date, the environmental impact assessment has been completed, approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment in Decision No. 285/QD-BTNMT dated February 9, 2021; topographic survey work to serve the preparation of a feasibility study report, design and construction of the industrial park and marking the boundary and center of the project's traffic system according to the approved planning; Detailed planning project dossier 1/500 and submit to Industrial Park Management Board for consideration and approval.
Secretary of the Party Committee of Son My commune - Nguyen Le Thanh affirmed: Regarding the breakthrough, in parallel with continuing to promote administrative reform, the locality promotes the development of science - technology, innovation and digital transformation associated with building a government serving the people. In particular, focusing resources on investing in essential infrastructure, prioritizing inter-commune transportation, electricity, water for people's lives and industrial parks. Promoting economic restructuring towards energy industry, logistics services, coastal tourism associated with high-tech agriculture and production - consumption chains.
Industrial infrastructure is a lever for development
Comrade Nguyen Le Thanh, Secretary of the Commune Party Committee, said: The locality will promote investment in strategic infrastructure, develop high-tech industry, digital economy, modern services and technology-based agriculture. The South Central region - where Son My belongs to the new Lam Dong province - is being identified as a dynamic development area, converging many breakthrough opportunities. At the same time, the locality is still persistent with key programs, breakthroughs in development - science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation. Complete construction of essential economic and social infrastructure; site clearance.
In the immediate future, the Party Committee and the Son My Commune Government will work together to complete the site clearance of Son My 1 and Son My 2 Industrial Parks. Coordinate to restore and call for investment in Thang Hai Industrial Cluster 1, 2, 3; Tan Minh - Son My Road. Continue to propose and complete the main water channel of Tay Song Dinh 3; Co Kieu Dam. Along with proposing to invest in upgrading and expanding National Highway 55 (section through the commune), the coastal road, Road 331 from National Highway 55 to Suoi Bang village, Road 15 to Co Kieu village; continue to propose the road to Thang Hai center. Invest in the construction of a water channel for irrigation and production to the fruit growing area of Suoi Bang village. Propose to upgrade Tan Thang Water Supply Plant.
In Son My, when Tan Minh and Son My roads are completed; traffic routes are invested, inter-regional connections will be formed. Along with that, the Tan Thang - Thang Hai coastal tourism projects will be cleared of obstacles, creating the premise for forming large-scale tourism - resort clusters. The rich land and irrigation systems continue to be favorable conditions for the development of clean industry, logistics services, high-tech agriculture, etc.
