According to FIFA, the draw will take place at 9:00 PM today, May 21st (Vietnam time) in Zurich, Switzerland. Football fans can easily watch this historic event live on online platforms such as FIFA+, TikTok, and YouTube.
First time for Vietnam U17
At this year's biggest football tournament on the planet for the U17 age group, Asia contributed 9 representatives. Among them, Vietnam U17 proudly stands as the only representative from Southeast Asia. The remaining 8 teams from the continent include host nation Qatar, Australia, China, Japan, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
These are all teams that have advanced from the group stage of the 2026 U17 Asian Cup, currently taking place in Saudi Arabia. Qatar, despite not advancing from the group stage, is still eligible for the World Cup as the host nation.

Principles of drawing lots
To prepare for the draw, FIFA will divide the 48 teams into 4 seeded groups (12 teams per group). Rankings will be based on performance in the last 5 U17 World Cups (from 2015 to 2025). Notably, the more recent the tournament, the higher the point weighting, with the 2025 tournament accounting for the maximum 100% of the points.
Group 1 will consist of host nation Qatar and the 11 highest-ranked teams. The remaining teams will be allocated to groups 2, 3, and 4 based on their total accumulated points.
This year, FIFA continues to apply the principle of not placing teams from the same confederation in the same group. This means that coach Cristiano Roland's team will certainly not have to face their long-standing rivals in the Asian region such as Japan, South Korea, or Saudi Arabia... Instead, the Vietnam U17 team will be in the same group as representatives from Europe, the Americas, and Africa.
