(QNO) - Many consumers in Indonesia are becoming more environmentally responsible by looking for ways to reduce carbon emissions by making smart shopping choices or consuming environmentally friendly products.

Ankayama - an Indonesian influencer decided to only buy organic beauty brands as well as other vegan products, stemming from her desire to protect her sensitive skin and the planet.
"Organic and plant-based products are biodegradable. So the products I choose are not only good for my skin but also contribute to a green environment," Ankayama said at the launch of the Taman Wisata Alam mangrove sustainability initiative in North Jakarta, Indonesia.
Rasis Putra Ritonga, data manager at the Indonesian Archipelago Nature Conservation Foundation, has been buying most of her clothes and shoes from local secondhand stores since 2018, hoping to help reduce carbon emissions in the textile industry.

According to a survey in Indonesia, Millennials (those born from around 1980 to the early 2000s) and Generation Z (those born from 1997 to 2012) seem to be increasingly concerned about environmental factors and sustainability before deciding to buy products or invest.
Stella Septania Farronikka, an expert on environment and sustainable development, explains that these are generations that have grown up seeing climate change everywhere. Therefore, they are more environmentally conscious and want to take action to help prevent global warming.

As customers become more eco-conscious, manufacturing companies are also moving towards greener growth.
To reduce greenhouse gas emissions, BASE - a famous Indonesian skincare and cosmetics brand that uses non-endangered plants as raw materials for its products, also uses biodegradable plastic and eco-soy ink for packaging.
Recently, BASE participated in a tree planting campaign in Jakarta Semarang, Central Java and Lampung.
Ms. Ratih Permata Sari - representative of BASE believes that efforts to protect the environment are efforts to save the company itself and can create a ripple effect by inspiring customers and other businesses to operate more environmentally friendly.
Meanwhile, packaging company SIG Combibloc Indonesia encourages customers to sort and recycle waste by setting up a waste collection point in Cibubur Junction, East Jakarta, in exchange for accumulated reward points that can be used to buy the company's products at a discount.
Besides being careful in choosing products, many Indonesian customers are adopting a minimalist lifestyle and only buying what is really necessary.
