With the advantages of low investment capital, early harvest, long harvest time, few pests and diseases, easy to grow, high yield, many households in Xuan Nha are planting the Bat Do bamboo shoots, both to green the bare land and to generate income, improving living standards. Currently, the commune has more than 200 hectares, making it the largest Bat Do bamboo shoot growing locality in the region.
Established in late 2020, with 9 members, Xuan Nha Clean Bamboo Cooperative has mobilized members and people to convert ineffective crop areas to newly grow 150 hectares of bamboo shoots. Ms. Lo Thi Nguyen, Director of the Cooperative, said: Every year, the Cooperative harvests 1,800 tons of fresh bamboo shoots, processed into dried bamboo shoots, salted bamboo shoots, and pickled bamboo shoots. In addition, the Cooperative also buys about 128 tons of fresh bamboo shoots, 10 tons of shredded bamboo shoots, and 2.2 tons of finished dried bamboo shoots for people. The Cooperative's bamboo shoot products have been exported to Taiwan, Japan, and Korea. Revenue is nearly 2 billion VND/year. From bamboo shoots, people earn income from selling bamboo shoots and seedlings.
Taking advantage of the cool climate and clean water, Xuan Nha commune encourages people to develop green dam fish farming, opening up a new direction in economic development. The commune has coordinated with specialized agencies to provide technical training, creating conditions for people to borrow capital to expand farming areas; making green dam fish farming a key product of the locality. Currently, the commune has more than 500 households raising green dam fish, with a pond area of more than 25 hectares, concentrated in the villages: Tun, Na Hieng, Chieng Hin, Na Lua and Pu Lau.
The family of Mr. Ngan Van Thiet, Chieng Hin village - one of the pioneer families raising green dam fish in Xuan Nha. Mr. Thiet shared: Currently, the family has 2 ponds for raising fish fry of about 200 m² and 1 pond of 4,000 m² for raising green dam fish. The most important condition for raising green dam fish is a clean water source, the fish pond must be designed to allow water to flow in and out regularly, only then will the fish live healthy, grow well and produce delicious meat quality. Selling both fish fry and commercial fish, the family earns nearly 400 million VND each year.
With the advantage of large grazing areas and abundant food sources from agricultural by-products, people in the commune have raised large livestock for commercial purposes. Currently, the whole commune maintains a herd of nearly 10,000 cattle. At the same time, households are encouraged to develop large-scale livestock farming, increase livestock herds for farms and ranches, and protect the environment.
Immediately after operating under the 2-level local government model, Xuan Nha commune worked with the Van Ho Social Policy Bank Transaction Office to grasp the preferential loan situation, creating favorable conditions to help households in the commune, especially poor and near-poor households, have the motivation to develop production, focusing on effective production and business models.
Developing sustainable agriculture, Xuan Nha commune continues to direct specialized departments to coordinate with villages to promote propaganda and mobilize people to change the structure of crops and livestock, introduce high-quality and high-yield plants and breeds into intensive farming. Focus on organizing the connection of "4 houses", including: Farmers, the state, scientists and businesses, creating commodity products, helping people apply science and technology to livestock and crop farming, increasing value and ensuring output for products.
