In March, Vietnam exported 55,000 tons of cashew nuts, worth 289 million USD, double the previous month.
The above figures have just been quoted from the Import-Export Department ( Ministry of Industry and Trade ) by Customs. In the first quarter, cashew nut exports reached 147,000 tons, worth 782 million USD, up 32% and 20.5% respectively over the same period last year.
Exporters say the demand for cashew nuts is increasing worldwide . In particular, this nut is increasingly becoming a nutritious and healthy food that many people use every day.
Vietnam mainly exports W320 cashew nuts (white cashew nuts with 320 nuts) and W240 (white cashew nuts with 240 nuts), accounting for 56.71% of total cashew nut exports. Therefore, the growth in W320 and W240 cashew nut exports has a positive impact on the industry's operations.
In terms of market, the US is the largest import market for cashew nuts from Vietnam, while China has emerged as an active buyer.
According to the Vietnam Cashew Association, with the development of technology, Vietnamese cashews are competing with other countries, especially those with strengths in raw cashew materials such as Ivory Coast. Therefore, the cashew industry needs to focus on processing quality and diversifying processed products to increase competitive advantage.
Last year, cashew exports reached a record of 3.64 billion USD, exceeding the plan by 18%. This year, the cashew industry is forecast to have much room for export growth and could reach the target of 4 billion USD.
