On January 7th, the Malaysian Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) announced that digital exports reached RM 6.8 billion (USD 1.7 billion) during the period from January 2024 to June 2025, marking a significant milestone in Malaysia's digital economy development journey.

According to MDEC, a corporation under the management of Malaysia's Ministry of Digital, this strong export performance is thanks to the Founder Excellence Centre (FOX) and MDEC's Gateway, Amplify, Invest, and Nurture programs, which have supported the country's promising digital companies in expanding into international markets, raising growth capital, and building sustainable competitiveness.

The MDEC statement also indicated that in 2024, Malaysia generated RM4.2 billion in digital export revenue from 325 companies operating in 27 countries. This growth momentum continued into the first half of 2025, with digital export revenue reaching RM2.6 billion, supported by 350 companies expanding into 39 markets worldwide .

Notably, companies applying artificial intelligence (AI) account for approximately 50% of total digital exports, demonstrating Malaysia's growing capacity in advanced digital technologies. MDEC believes these strong performance indicators will continue into the second half of 2025, reinforcing the scale, competitiveness, and resilience of Malaysia's digital ecosystem.

Minister for Digital Gobind Singh Deo stated that the strong export performance demonstrates Malaysia's readiness to lead the global digital economy thanks to clear policies and effective public-private partnerships.

He argued that Malaysia's digital export growth reflects international confidence in its digital policies, talent, and infrastructure. Minister Gobind Singh Deo stressed that as Malaysia moves toward becoming an AI nation by 2030, its priority is ensuring that innovation is translated into tangible economic value through exports, creating high-quality jobs and sustainable growth.

These results demonstrate that Malaysian digital companies are increasingly better prepared to compete and succeed globally.

MDEC CEO, Anuar Fariz Fadzil, said the strong digital export performance achieved over the past two years reflects how targeted support, enhanced market access, and financial assistance can propel Malaysian digital companies to grow faster, compete more confidently, and establish a sustainable global presence.
