(Dan Tri) - Artist Le Sa Long depicts the image of forces racing against fire and smoke to save people in a mini apartment building in Hanoi , on the night of September 12 and early morning of September 13.
After the mini apartment fire on Khuong Ha Street (Thanh Xuan District, Hanoi), artist Le Sa Long spent nearly 3 days completing a series of 7 paintings, commemorating the 56 victims who died, and at the same time expressing gratitude to the forces involved in firefighting and rescue. He used pastel and acrylic colors for the series of paintings. The first painting depicts the smoke and fire engulfing the 9-storey mini apartment building and an attic at No. 37, Lane 29/70, Khuong Ha Street, around 11:23 p.m. on September 12. Upon receiving the fire alarm, Hanoi City Police mobilized 15 fire trucks and vehicle transport vehicles, along with more than 100 officers and soldiers from the Fire Prevention and Fighting Forces of the Ministry of Public Security , the Fire Prevention and Fighting Police University and the City Police. At 11:29 p.m. the same day, the units arrived at the scene, deployed fire fighting, fire prevention, and reconnaissance teams to search and rescue victims. After 45 minutes of the fire, the fire was basically under control, preventing it from spreading to surrounding houses. During the night of September 12 and early morning of September 13, forces rescued more than 70 people trapped in the fire and took the injured to hospitals in the city. Through the painting, artist Le Sa Long wants to convey positive energy, with the view that "even if it is a disaster, we will unite to overcome it". The house on fire was located deep in a small and narrow alley, the fire truck had to park nearly 400m away from the scene. Groups of soldiers took turns carrying equipment from the street into the alley. Painter Le Sa Long said he had created a large painting measuring 120cm x 160cm, with the theme "Firefighters' Resting Moment" after repelling the "fire". This oil painting has high artistic significance and is expected to be auctioned to raise funds to help the families of the victims of the fire. Artist Le Sa Long is most fond of the painting of a firefighter carrying a baby out of a fire. Le Sa Long drew male shipper Nguyen Dang Van (30 years old, from Bac Ninh ) - the person who rushed into the fire to save 9 victims. According to Mr. Van, after finishing his last delivery in the early morning of September 13, he received a phone call from a relative, reporting that the mini apartment building where his sister's family lived was on fire. From Cau Giay district, he immediately went to the scene, put on a helmet, covered himself with a mask, took a hammer from a resident's house opposite the apartment building, and entered the scene with the soldiers. Mr. Pham Quoc Viet (36 years old), captain of the Free First Aid Support Team (FAS Angel), entered Le Sa Long's painting. Continuously for many hours, Mr. Viet and his teammates worked through the night to bring 12 survivors (including children and young people) out safely, and transferred them to the emergency room at Hanoi Medical University Hospital and Dong Da General Hospital. The most haunting moment for him was when the victims tried to run to the top floor to find a way out, but many people tripped over furniture, suffocated by smoke and fell down. With a face darkened by smoke, Mr. Viet said he would look at the number of 12 people rescued to find comfort and positive things for life. Looking at the 7 paintings by artist Le Sa Long, viewers can feel humanity and solidarity. The series of paintings is considered to be highly humane, honoring the fire police force, remembering the victims, and at the same time promoting fire prevention and fighting work.
Artist Le Sa Long was born in Sa Dec (Dong Thap province), grew up in Quy Nhon (Binh Dinh province), studied and worked in Ho Chi Minh City. In 2020, he attracted attention with a series of paintings about musician Trinh Cong Son and "Music Lovers". In October 2020, Le Sa Long released the painting series "Masks and Famous People". After the exhibition, he sold 12 paintings, donating 80 million VND to the fund for the poor and the Covid-19 prevention fund.
