BYD’s Yangwang U8 is one of the hottest cars on the Chinese market right now. With its large size, luxurious interior, and powerful electric powertrain, it seems like it lacks nothing. However, there will still be customers who feel that this is not enough to make it the “ultimate” car. |

To please all customers, BYD is preparing to launch a new version of the U8 line at the 2025 Shanghai Auto Show opening on April 23. This new version is called the electric Yangwang U8L 2025. Before the car's launch, BYD has released the first official images of the Yangwang U8L. |

However, China's leading electric vehicle manufacturer has not yet announced any information related to this model. Through the few images released by the company, we can recognize some changes of the Yangwang U8L compared to the standard version. |

The letter "L" in the name is rumored to stand for "long wheelbase." This can be guessed from the longer rear door area of the car. Furthermore, BYD has also lengthened the rear area of the Yangwang U8L. |

This suggests that the car not only has more space for the second row of seats, but may also have a third row added, similar to the Land Rover Defender 130. Other changes to the Yangwang U8L compared to the standard version include the disappearance of the externally mounted spare tire, possibly to make the car easier to park. |

The next new detail is the giant alloy wheels with an octagonal design like a shield. The characteristic ribs behind the wheel wells of the standard Yangwang U8 are also designed smoother, creating a more refined feel. |

There is no official technical information yet, but the Yangwang U8L is said to have 2 interior configurations: 6 seats or 7 seats. In which, the 6-seat version can be equipped with 2 business seats in the middle row to match the top class of the car. |

The Yangwang U8L's powertrain will likely remain the same as the regular version. |
![]() |
If so, the car will be equipped with 4 electric motors with a total capacity of 1,196 horsepower and maximum torque of 1,280 Nm. |
![]() |
Powering these four electric motors is a 49.05 kWh Blade LFP battery and a 2.0L turbocharged, four-cylinder gasoline engine that acts as a generator. |

BYD claims the standard U8 can travel 180km on battery alone, while the total range is up to 1,000km on China's CLTC cycle. These figures are expected to be lower on the Yangwang U8L due to its heavier weight. |

Similar to the standard version, the Yangwang U8L will have BYD's DiSus-P hydraulic suspension system, allowing the car to rotate in place like a tank, run on 3 wheels when 1 wheel is punctured and can even float on water. The price of the 2025 Yangwang U8L is still unknown but is expected to not be cheap. |
